+BATCH4 HW3PLUS ISEM500 v3 Short

This document outlines the deliverables for Homework 3 and Project 3, which combine to prepare the student for Exam 3. For Deliverable A (Homework 3), the student must answer questions about databases, networks, the internet, and AI/computer planning by developing conceptual models, queries, diagrams, and lists of features. For Deliverable B (hands-on experiments and final report), the student must use an online IT planning tool called SPACE ePlanner to develop a plan, then discuss how it could be made "smarter" and compare it to another tool. The final report should summarize the plan from Project 2, discuss lessons learned and areas of interest, and show an updated infrastructure incorporating intelligent applications.

HW3 and PROJECT3 (Individual)

Preparation for Exam3

This individual assignment combines Homework3 and Project3 to prepare you for Exam3. You
are responsible for the deliverables discussed below.
 Deliverable A: Homework3
 Deliverable B: Hands on Experiments & Final Report

Post your final report that contains results of all these deliverables on the Project3+HW3
FORUM. Exam3 will be based on what you posted on the FORUM.

Deliverable A: Homework 3 (Wrapup)

PROBLEM1: Databases, Networks, Internet, the Web (Chapters 8 and 9)
Consider a small healthcare center (3 room) that offers pre-primary and primary care
through 10 staff members (doctors, nurses, clerical staff). Based on your study of (Umar
chapters 8 and 9), answer the following simple questions:
 Develop a conceptual model of databases that will be used in this center. You should
list 3 major database tables to be used by the company, their contents (e.g., list of
fields) and interrelationships (ER diagram).
 List 10 database queries (in English) that the company will use most commonly with
these databases. Then translate the queries into SQL.
 Draw a sketch of the Network of the Center with wireless and wired capabilities
 Will you consider HTML5 and why
 Show a simple technology architecture diagram of the Center that displays all the
computers, databases, applications and the network for this Center
PROBLEM 2: AI and Computer Aided Planning (Ch. 10 and 11)
 What is AI and how does it differ from human intelligence
 What are the 4 key elements of a Practioner’s View of AI presented in this chapter
 List the AI technologies that are used to support detection and adjustment activities
 List the AI technologies that are used in dynamic learning
 What exactly is an Expert System. Please illustrate by using an example
 Suppose you want to convert a clerical HR system to a Smart HR system. List the 4
steps you will use for this conversion.
 What are the main differences between Apple Siri and IBM Watson
 Surf the Net and find 5 examples of Expert Systems that you like (2-3 lines per expert
system)
 Based on what you have learned from the text and hands-on experiments, list about
10 main features a really smart planner will have and what type of AI techniques,
discussed in chapter 10, will be used by the smart planner.
PROBLEM3: Security (Chapter 12)
 What type of requirements drive a security solution?
 What are the main management issues in developing a sound security system?
 What is cryptography and what are the key differences between the symmetric and
asymmetric key cryptography?
 What will be the security technologies used in the Center introduced in Problem 1(list
about 5)

and Module2 to get a basic idea of Python (a highly popular language at present for AI
applications)

Deliverable B: Hands-On Experiments and a Final Report

Some interesting computer aided IT planning tools are becoming commercially available.
The SPACE ePlanner (www.space4ict.com) is such a computer aided planning tool.
Please use the ePlanner to develop IT plan for a service of your choice by using the
following steps:
 Go to ePlanner Learning Corner and review the video clips and documents in Stage1
to develop a good understanding of the ePlanner
 Use the ePlanner to develop a simple plan for a service that is of interest to you.
IMPORTANT: Note your login id and the scenario-name that you generated so that
we can review it You will lose 15 points if we do not find this information.
 Do you think that ePlanner is “smart”. Please suggest how you can make it Smart by
using KDAL (Knowledge, Detection, Adjustment, and Learning).
 Surf the Net to find at least one additional IT planning tool that can help you with
Project2. Compare and contrast this tool with SPACE ePlanner (www.space4ict.com)
(see Exhibit1 for details)

IMPORTANT: The main deliverable is a Final Report that shows an extension of the plan you
developed in Project2 but now showing how you can compete better based on what you
have learned so far from the text and the hands-on experiments. Specifically, show how
your company can compete better based on the following:
 Lessons learned from hands-on experiments
 Areas of your own interest. For example, you may extend project2 to include security
features, Big Data applications, Expert Systems, or any topic area within the general
scope of your CPT assignments (highly desirable for CPT students)
 Additional materials covered, especially AI and Intelligent Systems

The final report is an Executive Summary that highlights your Final Project (i.e., an
improved Application Matrix that shows Intelligent Applications, Expert Systems, BI
applications and other Smart Applications) and the updated IT infrastructure that shows
IoTs, sensors, Big Data, based on whatever else you have learned in Module2, 3 and
SPACE experiments (4-5 slides or pages).Specifically, your FINAL REPORT should show
your ID Number and what are the Scenario names that you generated in SPACE.
Exhibit 1: Searching for IT Planning Tools
For more planning tools, try searching for “IT planning tools”, “technology planning tools,
“enterprise planning tools”, “network planning tools”, “business planning tools”, etc.
The basic idea is for you to become an expert at IT Planning tools by finding and evaluating
diverse tools. A good assessment of a weak planning tool is OK and you will get full credit for it.
