1. OVERVIEW
1.1. FEATURES
 The fan controller module is designed to work with a 24VDC or 48VDC EC fan
 EFX0089 temperature set point (25C to 40C in 4 steps) is set via Dip-Switches
 EFX0089-A temperature set point (15C to 30C in 4 steps) is set via Dip-Switches
 The maximum fan speed (33% to 100% in 4 steps) is set via Dip-Switches
 There is a fan fail alarm output which indicates an error in operation
 There is provision for a remote temperature sensor to be attached
 Via voltage free contacts you can remotely inhibit fan operation
 Via voltage free contacts you can remotely run the fan at full speed

1.2. CONNECTIONS

The 24VDC or 48VDC is wired to the DC SUPPLY CONNECTOR using a MOLEX 39-01-2020 connector.

The EC FAN is wired to the FAN CONNECTOR using a MOLEX 39-01-2060 connector.

The Control Interface is wired to the CONTROL CONNECTOR using a MOLEX 39-01-2080 connector.

A REMOTE TEMPERATURE SENSOR (if used) is wired to the REMOTE TEMPERATURE CONNECTOR using a
MOLEX 39-01-2040 connector.

1.3. OPERATION
If using a remote temperature sensor (MCP9701A) plug this into the REMOTE TEMPERATURE CONNECTOR
and set the SENSOR LINK to EXTERNAL. Otherwise leave the SENSOR LINK on INTERNAL

Connect the fan to the FAN CONNECTOR. Note that the fan must be the same voltage as the DC supply, i.e.
use a 48VDC fan with a 48VDC supply.

The RED led will flash slowly when the unit is operating, to indicate the “heartbeat” of the microprocessor,
and to show the system is working.

Connect the 24VDC or 48VDC to the DC SUPPLY CONNECTOR

1.4. REMOTE CONTROL + FAN TEST

Connect any control inputs to the CONTROL CONNECTOR. Note that the unit will operate without anything
connected to this connector.

To perform the FAN TEST function, bridge FAN TEST and COM together. The fan will change to 100% speed.
The speed will return to normal when FAN TEST and COM contacts are open.

To perform the FAN INHIBIT function, bridge FAN INHIBIT and COM together. The fan will stop. The speed will
return to normal when FAN INHIBIT and COM contacts are open.

It is possible to change the fan minimum speed. To do this, bridge both FAN TEST and COM and bridge FAN
INHIBIT and COM for approximately 10 seconds. The RED led will blink fast 4 times and the minimum fan
speed will be set to approximately 10%.

To reset the minimum fan speed to 0%, bridge both FAN TEST and COM and bridge FAN INHIBIT and COM for
approximately 10 seconds. The RED led will blink fast 8 times and the minimum fan speed will be set back to
0%.

1.5. FAN FAIL ALARM

A fan fail alarm output is provided which will indicate several different alarm conditions. In normal operation,
the GREEN led will be ON and the fan fail alarm contacts are closed.

In a fan fail scenario the green LED will be OFF and the alarm contacts will be open. This will occur in any of
the following situations when;
1. the measured temperature is below 0 C°;
2. the measured temperature is above 60 C°;
3. the Fan Controller is set for an EXTERNAL temperature sensor, and the sensor is not connected;
4. the fan is running at more than approximately 30% speed, the fan controller checks the EC fan speed
pulses. If these pulses are missing, the alarm is activated, the fan fail output will open and the GREEN led
will go OFF; or
5. there is a power supply failure.

Set the SETPOINT to the desired setting by using switches 1 & 2 on the DIP SWITCH.
Set the MAXIMUM FAN SPEED to the desired setting by using switches 3 & 4 on the DIP SWITCH.

1.6. DIP SWITCH OPERATION

a) If the measured temperature is at the setpoint, the fan will be at 0% speed. If the measured temperature
is 10 C above the setpoint, the fan will be at 100% speed. The fan speed changes linearly with temperature
above the setpoint.
b) Maximum fan speed control. Usually this is set to 100% but if reduced speed or noise is required then the
maximum speed of the fan can be limited.
