Some of us travelled a day before November 30% | travelled alone by driving to the area, since I have other stuff to do at Kuala Lumpur. The program was expected to start at 11am, but unfortunately, it was delayed for about 75 minutes, The accessibility to the area is quite high, as you can drive (need some skills as the place is always congested), LRT, KTM, and even by bus as there are bus parking too behind the shopping complex’ We were welcomed by thé”BIM staff and a brief explanation about BIM. Since the students already have some insights about BIM, the BIM staffs explained it to us easier. An hour later, (1315), the program ends and we dispersed. A photography session was held and we were moving around the office to see the working culture and some BIM mini booths about how far the execution of BIM around Malaysia. Overview about BIM ‘The Construction industry Transformation Programme (CIT?) was developed to address the issues in the industry and also to enact a transformation of the industry into one which is modern and updated. Central to this the CITP’s aim to become the catalyst for generating 2 succession of interlinked multiplier effects on a host of sectors, to help transform Malaysia to be 2 developed nation with a sustainable highsincome economy, ‘The CITP is only the first step in transforming the construction industry; the successful interdependence among the various ministries and agencies is paramount for the sustainability of Malaysia's long-term goais. Once we overcome’ this inertia of who, what when, where and how to start, this will lay the strong foundations for different ministries and agencies to interlink and pull their sources.and-expertise-to help inthis mission-critical national effort. In line with the implementation of the CITP, CID8 collaborates with myBIM center are initiating to provide the Building Information Training (BIM) which is called as Affordable BIM Training(ABT). This program is mainly targeting the industry player such as Contractors, Architect, Engineer , Surveyor etc. to learn the process of implementing the BIM process including the usage of tools and managing the construction site by using the knowledge of BIM. By implementing the BIM into the project, Planners can select optimum sites. Architects can produce more accurate designs with fewer errors, less waste, and closer alignment with the owner's vision, Engineers can increase coordination with architects and other engineering disciplines, improving the reliability of their designs. Contractors can make sure that constructability issues are flagged early on when changes are less expensive to make, Ultimately, owners will be able to use the models fer into the future as the basis of a comprehensive facility and asset management program. Adapting to the advantages BIM offers requires investment in staff, processes, and technology. Approaching these changes with a positive attitude will speed the transition and allow firms to quickly realise the productivity and quality gains possible with BIM. What is BIM? Building Information Modelling (BIM) is modelling technology and associated set of processes to produce, communicate and analyze digital information models for construction project life cycle. BIM allows for collaboration, optimisation, higher productivity, predictability and completeness, Why BIM? Lean Construction More effective communication Clash detection Whole life costing Time based constru: 9 and in-use simulation can be made6. Cost reduction 7. Facility management Disadvantages of BIM Incompatibility with partners: BIM Is not yet universally used among construction professionals. There is always the possibility that one of your partners or subcontractors may not use BIM and may not be able to use your models. Legal issues: The legal ramifications of using BIM software have not yet been extensively tested, let alone settled. Cost of software: BIM software requires a substantial investment in new technology. The advantages usually make the investment worthwhile, but only if the software is used to its full capacity. Lack of experts: The relative newness of BIM means that there are limited numbers of experts working in the field. Your software purchase may require an additional investment in training and education. Conclusion trip is really helpful for us, as BIM is considered new to Malaysia. In future, it is a compulsory for company to use BIM in his/her project. An excerpt from myBIM news stated that starting 2019, it is compulsory for project over MYR 100,000,000 to (USD 24,880,000) use BIM in the project. Overall, the trip is fun and leisure, and the environment of the office is nice. Perhaps, UTP might be able to invest for a BIM office at around our campus, but huge amount of money needed for the high-end computer. The courses offered at the BIM are affordable by the senior engineers and higher management level, but not for us, graduate engineers. in future, | hope that the juniors can experience the same field trips like us, as it is really helpful for them. indeed, “BIM is the future for Construction Industry”.
