Seaweeds Extract

The study aims to determine the effectiveness of seaweeds extract as fertilizer for potatoes. It will compare the growth of potatoes treated with different amounts of seaweeds extract: 1 L, 1.5 L, and 0.5 L. The researchers hypothesize that the different seaweed treatments will have varying effects on potato growth. If proven effective, seaweeds extract could serve as a organic fertilizer alternative for farmers. The findings of the study may help address environmental pollution from chemical fertilizers and benefit the agricultural industry.

Background of the study

A fertilizer that has a declarable content of at least two of the plant nutrients nitrogen,

phosphorus and potassium, obtained chemically or by blending or both.A fertilizer is a material

that furnishes one or more of the chemical elements necessary for the proper development and

growth of plants. The most important fertilizers are fertilizer products (also called chemical or

mineral fertilizers), manures, and plant residues. A fertilizer product is a material produced by

industrial processes with the specific purpose of being used as a fertilizer. Fertilizers are

essential in today’s agricultural system to replace the elements extracted from the soil in the

form of food and other agricultural products.

Soil amendments are made by adding fertilizer to the soil but there are different types of

fertilizers. There is bulky organic fertilizer, such as cow manure, bat guano, bone meal, organic

compost and green manure crops. And then there is also chemical fertilizer which is also

referred to as inorganic fertilizer and is made up with different formulations to suit a variety of

specified uses. Though many governments and agricultural departments go to great lengths to

increase the supply of organic fertilizers, such as bulky organic manures and composting

materials, there is just not enough of these fertilizers available to meet the existing and future

fertilizer needs. Compared to organic compost, chemical or inorganic fertilizers also have the

added advantage of being less bulky. Being less bulky makes chemical fertilizer easier to

transport, both overland and from the soil into the plants itself, because they get to be available

to the plant relatively quickly when incorporated as part of the plant-food constituents. Chemical

fertilizer usually comes in either granular or powder form in bags and boxes, or in liquid

formulations in bottles. The different types of chemical fertilizers are usually classified according

to the three principal elements, namely Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P) and Potassium (K), and

may, therefore, be included in more than one group.

When you crack a few eggs to make breakfast or a baked good, don't toss away the shells. If

you garden, the nutrients found in eggshells provide a decent and inexpensive source of

fertilizer for your plants. Unlike synthetic fertilizers, when you use eggshells in your garden, you

do not have to worry about going overboard. Keep in mind that eggshells alone won't provide

adequate nutrition for plants. Eggshells will reduce the acidity of your soil and help to aerate it.

The chemical fertilizers can affect the farmers health and living. Some of the harm chemical

fertilizers may cause include waterway pollution, chemical burn to crops, increased air pollution,

acidification of the soil and mineral depletion of the soil. The researchers seek a solution to

solve the problem and they’ve found that eggshells can be an alternative inorganic fertilizer to

tomatoes.

According to Justine Hand (2018) Though nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are most vital

for healthy growth, calcium is also essential for building healthy “bones” the cell walls of a plant.

Composed of calcium carbonate, eggshells are an excellent way to introduce this mineral into

the soil. To prep the eggshells, grind with a mixer, grinder, or mortar and pestle and till them into

the soil. Because it takes several months for eggshells to break down and be absorbed by a

plant’s roots, it is recommended that they be tilled into the soil in fall. More shells can be mixed

into your soil in the spring. By the same token, finely crushed shells mixed with other organic

matter at the bottom of a hole will help newly planted plants thrive eggshells will reduce the

acidity of your soil and help to aerate it.

Statement of the study

The study aims to determine the effectiveness of Eggshells as an Althernative Organic Fertilizer

for Tomatoes. Specially, It sought to answer the following question:

1. How do seaweeds extract affect the growth of potatoes?

2.

3.

Theoretical Framework

Now days people are eating more eggs than at previosly due to the increase in technology in

production of hybrid organisms. The results of this production bring abaut the environment

pollution due to accumulation of egg shells as wastes.

Conceptual Paradigm of the study

The Figure 1 shows the Independent Variable and Dependent Variable. The Independent

Variable shows the growth of Potatoes and the Dependent Variable shows the different

treatment [ T1 (1L), T2 (1.5 L), T3 (0.5 L).

Significance of the study

The aim of project is to recycle the egg shell by natural acids from different fruits and the

resulted compound then will be used as the fertilizers. The egg shells contains calcium

carbonate hence it contains some plant nutrients such as calcium , carbon and nitrogen which
are very important in plant growth. Also the project will result in production of carbondioxide

which can be used for various ways.

Farmers, who raise chickens that produce eggs.

Consumers, who will use the aforementioned product.

Business Industry, to let them pave the way on advertising of buying and selling of the said

product.

DOH, to test and 4no2 if our product 2ill be safe or not and if it can be recommended.

Future Researchers, this study can serve as a guide or reference for future researchers.
