Blooming Ivf Practice in India

The document discusses the growing IVF industry in India and the need for regulation. It notes that while IVF has helped many couples, the industry in India is growing rapidly without proper oversight. There are many unregistered clinics offering IVF, and the qualifications of professionals and success rates are often unclear. This poses physical, mental, social and financial burdens on couples undergoing treatment. There is a need for national standards and laws to ensure IVF is practiced ethically and affordably while still allowing innovation. Central and state governments should work with the private sector to improve oversight and access to treatment.

BLOOMING IVF PRACTICE IN INDIA- IS IT TIME TO PONDER??

The most precious jewels you will ever wear around your neck
are the arms of your children-Unknown

It is fundamental for every human to aspire for its progeny. The social
systems from time immemorial have sustained on this delicate balance
through the concept of family which is incomplete without your kith and kin.
Humanity is going through unprecedented global change. 21 st century has
witnessed a revolution in all filelds making such enormous scientific
advancements, from biotech to space exploration, from robotics to artificial
intelligence; the present is incredible and the future looks even brighter. It has
been 40 years since the birth of Louise Brown ,the worlds first ever baby born
out of an assisted reproductive technology. IVF indeed can be regarded as a
gift of humans towards humanity giving hopes to infertile couples. The world
today has around 6 million babies born using one of these techniques. The
formulation of IVF or the In-Vitro Fertilization technology and its significant
applicability in the field of infertility has sparked off immense interest among
researchers and medical professionals. There has been a boom in the so
called IVF industry globally ever since its inception with various
advancements in the treatments characteristics, laboratory parameters and
technologies. Over the past decade, the concept of IVF has gained popularity
at a swift pace in India across the millenials. Factors such as delayed
pregnancies, altered lifestyle, changing preferences, and cheaper healthcare
giving rise to medical tourism are the key reasons due to which this field is
increasing at an alarming rate in our country.
The Indian IVF services market is
projected to reach $775.9 million by 2022 at a CAGR of 16.6 percent from
2016 to 2022.With an increasing demand for IVF services, fertility specialists
are also in heavy demand, which has led to the expansion of the services even
more. We see a massive outburst in this sector, with a new IVF centre
mushrooming in every other part of the country ranging from small towns to
the metros. It is indubitably agreed upon that the fertility services are misused
or overused by untrained professionals masquerading as professionals. The
lack of central registry and a law stating clearly the norms and guidelines for
an ethical and professional practice adds to the constrain .Even as the
standalone clinics grow unhindered, only a handful of them are actually
enrolled with the national registry of Indian Council of Medical Research
(ICMR) since 2012, when it opened registration for such clinics.According to
data with ICMR, out of 1,515 “identified” Assisted Reproductive Technology’
(ART) centers, only 385 are enrolled. Who decides the quality of these centres?
What is the expertise of the professionals serving you? Is IVF your best option?
What is third party reproduction? Numerous unanswered questions. Are the
success stories projected by these centers true? One can never know, untill we
have a national registry and a transparent system to access these. Each
treatment cycle pose a great deal of physical, mental ,social and financial
burden on the couple which are far from being addressed. Though various
forums are coming up to hear their stories the actions taken in their favour
needs to come from the higher authorities to act in coalition with the private
sector to ameliorate their agony.
In conclusion, though IVF is a boon for the human race in terms of its
sustainability the current trends making the practise of medicine being
forecasted as an IVF market make us pause for a second as specialists. The
need of hour is a law that can make the system more standardized, experts in
the field requiring in depth knowledge regarding the reproductive physiologies
and the application of latest technologies in an individualized manner, putting
together ethics and law into practice, joining hands with the central and state
government to make the treatment modalities more affordable and
accessible even to the economically weak and raise awareness among
citizens regarding when to pursue treatments and what has to be seeked for.

So remember its not enough to get things done, they must be done right and
you might be just one step away from a miracle that can change your life.
