Pipe Size Calculation

This document discusses drainage and sanitation systems, including: 1. Different types of pipes used in drainage systems like cast iron, stoneware galvanized, reinforced concrete, uPVC, and HDPE pipes. 2. Formulas for calculating slopes of pipes using Manning's formula with variables for pipe diameter, roughness factor, slope, flow velocity, and discharge. 3. Considerations for pipe installation like minimum depths and spacing of manholes. 4. Illustrations and descriptions of single stack soil vent systems and typical toilet designs that incorporate them.

PRESENTATION ON PLUMBING SYSTEMS(Drainage And

Sanitation)-4
Drainage And Sanitation:
Requirements:
TOILET FITMENT CALCULATIONS
Material of Pipes

1. Cast Iron Pipes : Used where high pressure and at insufficient depths, Not
recommended where there shall be lot of subsoil water, which may cause to corrosion
at that locations.
2. SWG (Stone ware Galvanized Pipes): Used for only below ground application shall be
used where there is a acid type reaction.
3. RCC (reinforced Concrete Pipes) :Used for only below ground application, shall not be
used where there is a acid type reaction. Available above 150 mm dia , can be reduced
more joints than the stoneware pipes.
4. uPVC (PVC SWR Pipes): Can be used for ceiling suppported pipes, and when hot
drained into the line, the minimum thickness of the pipe shall be of 3 mm.
5. HDPE : Shall be used for external application (Below Ground).

Sewer Pipe should be at least 900 mm below roads and 600 mm below field and gardens.
