Weekly Reflections
Week 1:
On the first day of teaching practice, I went to summit school, which is located
inside Abu Dhabi. The summit is an international school .at first glance. You can
notice there are different nationalities and cultures, both teachers, students also
employees. Also, you can see how the environment is very cooperating, and
teachers and staff are very collaborators, and they are happy and welcome to
help you. On the first day, we met with the principal and the teachers, and they
tell us about the school, and the grade is available to teach. We moved to our
classes with our MST`s.
I met with my MST Ms. Sarah English, math’s and science teacher for grade one
and I give her all information about TP and the day I will be in school, also we
discuss about TP booklet and what should I do during TP and what should she do
form me during TP in the end of the meeting we exchanged numbers and
emails for excellent communication.
The rest of the days, I was trying to involve with school and classroom
environment. It was easy to engage with students because there was very
behave and respective also, they welcomed me in the right way.
Week 2:
In week 2, I did my first observation with my MST, it was a math lesson, and I
teach them addiction .my observation was very smooth students interact with
the lesson, and they did very well. However, I was very happy they were very
behaved and respectable, and they finish every task I give them.
Also, during this week students, they complete their science project it was
about shelter, students brought their materials before a week from home, and
they work during science class, it was very enjoyable to work and help them.
Monday, I attended the teacher`s meeting, attended meeting grade one
teachers, and they were preparing lesson plans for next week, and finishing
tasks.
Thursday, it was a red day, so all the students, teachers, and staff they
participate and celebrating on a red day, and they did different activities for a
red day. Also, every Thursday, they have a math test about what did they study
during the whole week.
Week 3:
Through my observation for this week and especially math lessons. In this week,
students will learn subtraction, the learning outcome for this week is the learners
can subtract from 1 to 10 and understand and learn subtract and what
happens in the output. Also, they will learn new vocabulary about subtraction,
for example, minus, difference, and take away. So, the teacher gives each
student a number line and stick it on every student’s table, and then she taught
students how to use and ask students to use the number line to help them to
complete subtraction equations. Most of the students find it easy and helpful
when they used a number line. However, low-level students, they find it difficult
to use, so the teacher replaced the number line with cubes. And she teaches
them how to use it, and they loved using cubes more than jump in the number
line.
Week 4:
During week four, the teacher did centers for students. The teacher prepares for
this lesson before one week. Also, centers take to periods. The idea is the there
are 4 different centers, must all the students work in each center. In the
beginning, the teacher asks students to stay in front of the classroom, them the
teacher sort learners in four groups lastly, she gives them instruction then send
them in their groups. However, students working in their group’s teacher moves
around to help them and provide more guidance. Teachers prepare every
week depends on learning outcomes for the week for each subject (English,
math, science, and ICT), also what that skills they must learn this week but with
more entertainment. So, every week, they get excited about these lessons to
have fun. Lastly, things that I note are the time is very important in this activity, so
of the end each group work in all different centers, students know what they
must do because they understand the purpose.
Week 5:
During week five I do the first peer observation, I observe math lesson for grade
four, the topic was about multipion.it is hard to teach math’s for class four, as a
teacher we must explain everything and tell them the reasons because learners
they want to know the idea. In grade one, they will not ask the teacher about
the reason they want to see the method, and they will not ask for more
explanation. The student’s teacher I observe, she gave all the students rewired.
In my opinion, that’s wrong because the rewired given for a minimal number of
students to encourage them to keep doing good things again and again, also
to encourage students will compete to take the rewired. However, the student-
teacher prepares different levels (high-middle-low); also, she makes a separate
worksheet for a need student in her class. Also, she manages the time for each
activity.
Week 6:
During week six, I do peer observation; I observe math lessons for grade one
math lesson, comparison word problems. The teacher starts her experience by
explaining to students; she models for students by asking students to come in
front of the classroom and telling students. Then the teacher let them work in
groups. All students know what they must do. Also, then the teacher manages
the class very well.
With my MST, she focused on the commutative Property of Addition. My MST
used different strategies to explain a new concept; for example, she used
YouTube videos; during the teacher display the video, she asks student question
to engage them and to make sure the idea is delivered for students. Also, this
week, students work in centers.
Week 7:
During week seven, it was the last week in teaching practice in summit school. It
was a teaching practice and completely different. This is the first time I go to
private school, and it was amazing, I can see how I developed my skills
especially management classroom, also it is the first time to teach math, before I
start teaching practice I thought I never could teach math because I have bad
feeling for math, but when I begin teaching practice is was very different ,I
observe my MST when she teaches math and I learned from her when she
teaches math in easiest way, also how should we teach math with songs and
make them feel it is secure. However, this is my teaching practice; I had perfect
MST/MCT that help me to learn. Also, l learned a lot, and it was a good
experience, and it was reverse my expectations before teaching practice.
