STATE OF ART

Energy is an important input for economic development; but today, the world’s
energy supply is largely based on fossil fuels and nuclear power. These sources of energy
will not last forever and are the proven contributors to environmental degradation. This has
led the governments and industries around the globe thinking seriously about alternative
sources of energy. This along with declining availability of the fossil fuels have led to the
development of renewable energy resources such as biomass, wind, solar, geothermal,
hydro energy, etc. The renewable energy sources development has shown a remarkable
growth in the recent years that can create pollution less and environment-friendly
atmosphere. India, over the years, has been a trend-setting nation with regard to renewable
energy utilization. India is blessed with abundance of sunlight, water, and biomass. Vigorous
efforts taken in the past two decades are now bearing fruits as people in all walks of life are
aware of the benefits of renewable energy; especially, in the decentralized
