This document summarizes a student's weekly progress on creating three media productions about how fashion impacts the environment and body image. In week 1, the student researched the topic and chose their focus. In week 2, they conducted interviews and divided planning tasks with their group for the factual program. In week 3, the student filmed interviews, overcame challenges by allowing an interviewee to review questions, and felt their group collaboration was effective with clearly defined roles. Outside of class, the student gathered additional footage and began editing to stay on schedule.

Regular evaluation updates are required with every unit. Please remember to
take photos and get behind the scenes footage as you film. You might find it
easier if you note down a record of what you did each day in a diary form.

Please use the following guidance to help you with each week.

Week 1 This week you worked on your idea generation and

topic research
What have you been asked to I have been asked to create three pieces of
do? production - a factual programme, an animation,
and a short film. These should all be based around a
topic relevant to the British Youth (people aged 14-24
as said in the brief). The factual programme is to be
filmed and planned in groups of 3-4 and lasting 3
minutes long. The animation and short film are
individual pieces of work, the animation being 30
seconds and short film being 4 minutes. The deadline
for the overall planning, productions, pitch and
evaluation are due to be handed in on Friday the 13th
of December. However, there are various sub
deadlines before this to make sure we keep track of
time.
What are you making your 3 The overall topic is “how fashion damages things” but
production on and why have you more specifically I am covering how fashion damages
chosen this topic? the environment and body image. I have chosen this
topic because fashion is relevant to everyone in the
British youth as it is everywhere and almost
unescapable. Youths are the age range that struggle
the most with mental health issues, stringing off of
body image so to create productions on it will be
quite hard hitting for this audience. Also, nearly no
one thinks about the consequences of their actions,
especially when it comes to buying clothes – no one
realises the crazy amounts of damage every top, for
example, they buy has done to the environment.
What research have you I have watched various YouTube documentaries,
completed this week and what read news reports and used books to gather my
have you learned? research. For both problems I have not only found
facts and statistics on why they are bad but I have
also found suitable solutions. I have learnt that there’s
a lot of ways around these problems that both the
producer and consumer can do which we are
currently not utilizing.
Are you on track for this week? If I will be on track after doing a bit of work over the

What work do you need to I need to further my research so that I have enough

Week 2 This week you worked on your factual programme

What research have you I have analysed three documentaries in order to

completed this week and what gather ideas on style, images and language to
have you learned? include in my factual programme. Also, I have
completed various focus group interviews to get
people’s opinions on how I should structure my
production. Lastly, I watched different set ups of
interviews and practiced them in my group.
How have you divided your I have made a long list of interesting b-roll ideas for us.
planning amongst your group? Mak has written out the questions for our interviewees.
Ella has created an equipment list and an overview of
our locations.
What did you learn from your I learnt that it is definitely good to split up work
planning? How has it helped you between everyone to ensure we don’t get
to progress your idea? overloaded with work. This planning has helped make
sure we haven’t forgotten any crucial parts to our
documentary.
Are you on track for this week? If I still have to upload a few of my interview practices
not, how far behind are you? that I have not yet managed to edit.
What work do you need to I need to add my focus group interviews to my
complete outside of lessons to website and create a profile overview for my
stay on track? interviewee at Carousel Clothing.
Week 3 This week you worked on your production

How helpful did you find your I found my plan extremely helpful as I had taken my
planning whilst out shooting your time to make sure I got it completed to a good level
factual programme? of detail and overall accuracy. This meant that it was
almost a mini checklist for me to refer back to,
therefore reassuring me that I was on task or had
completed everything. It also made things much
more time efficient because I knew exactly what I
was doing rather than having to make stuff up on the
spot. Also, not having to make stuff up on the spot
also meant that I was a lot less stressed than I
otherwise would have been/ could have been.
What interviews did you set up I interviewed a lady called Melanie who runs
and how do you feel they have Brockhurst Boutique – she has a lot of experience
added to your production? inside my documentary theme and worded things
really well which ensures that my audience will
hopefully stay engaged throughout. Without her
interview I would not have got as good information as
the extent that I did and I would not of got across in
as good of a way either. Earlier on in the week I
interviewed two students from college who both said
really good information however after I came to
conclusion that with the limited time I am allowed to
have my documentary reaching that because their
answers weren’t factual – only opinion based, they
could not be included in my work.
What issues did you have when Melanie was nervous about the interview at first –
filming your production? How did more specifically having her answers on camera as
you overcome them? she wasn’t sure she could get everything across to its
full potential without having planned answers. To help
her with this we allowed her to view the questions
beforehand so she had a rough idea of what she
wanted to say when answering them.
How do you feel you are working I think we have been splitting up all the tasks to the
as a group? What were your roles people best suited to the roles = to ensure theyre
and responsibilities? done to the highest ability. Makena wrote our
introduction to the production, I wrote out the
questions so they were very personal to Melanie and
Ella was in charge of making sure that the actual
production was done correctly – both cameras
focussed etc.
How much work did you I collected lots of b-roll outside of lessons around my
complete outside of the lessons? town centre to ensure I had more than enough to
pick and choose what I wanted to include in my edit.
Are you on track for this week? If I am on track.
not, how far behind are you?
What work do you need to I began editing my production at home to make sure
complete outside of lessons to that I finished on time without rushing.
