The District I have chosen is Warangal, Telangana, India. Warangal is located at such an important
place where possibilities of development are endless. Most of the people are dependent on
agriculture alone. However, agricultural economy suffers during summer months due to water
scarcity. The economy of Warangal is also depended upon tourism as it receives hundreds of tourists
every year because of its historical significance.
It is the seat of the Vishnukundins and Kakatiya dynasties the ruled the region pre Buddhist period.
The Warangal fort, the Thousand-pillar temple, Ramappa temple and Bhadra kali temple are the fine
remnants of the glorious bygone area. After the downfall of Kakatiyas, the region was ruled by Qutub
shahis and the Nizam. The major crops in district are rice, maize, greengram, red gram, groundnut,
cotton, chillies. Major vegetable grown are tomato, bhendi, brinjal. Main horticulture is mango and
banana and sweet orange. The major source of irrigation is wells, tanks, minor irrigation projects of
canals and tube wells. The major tanks are Ramappa, Lakhanavaram, Pakhal and Ghanapuram tanks.
River Godavari acts as a boundary but it has not been tapped for irrigation. Madaram Jatara, it is a
tribal festival held in once in 2 years in Medaram. State Government proposes to recognize this
Madaram jatara as National Festival. The Topography of the district consists of isolated hills. Rain fed
tanks, lakes and shrubby forests.
The district is bounded by Khammam district on East, Karimnagar district on North, Nalgonda on the
South and Medak on the West. The geographical area is 12834 Sq.kms.
Major minerals available in the district are laterite, dolomite, coal, clay, black granite and limestone
besides sand.
Major Exportable Items: Leather products like leather bags, jackets, purses are exporting items
Agro based Industries: Rice, rice bran oil are exporting item. Singareni collieries is a crown in
producing coal.
Mineral based Industries: Fly ash bricks, cement concrete dense, bricks and blocks, cement mosaic
tiles, hydrated lime, granite lime, granite tiles, coal fuel briquettes and cement products are exporting
items. Whole blocks of granite is export item.
I have chosen to export tourism in Warangal District. Tourism is both import and export. Exporting
tourism means that tourists from other places travel to the host country and consume goods and
services.
Tourism in India is important for the country's economy and is growing rapidly. The World Travel and
Tourism Council calculated that tourism generated ₹16.91 lakh crore - US$240 billion or 9.2% of India's
GDP in 2018 and supported 42.673 million jobs, 8.1% of its total employment. The sector is predicted
to grow at an annual rate of 6.9% to ₹32.05 lakh crore - US$460 billion by 2028 - 9.9% of GDP. In
October 2015, India's medical tourism sector was estimated to be worth US$3 billion, and it is
projected to grow to US$7–8 billion by 2020.
Over 10 million foreign tourists arrived in India in 2017 compared to 8.89 million in 2016, representing
a growth of 15.6%. The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2019 ranked India 34th out of 140
countries overall. India improved its ranking by 6 places over the 2017 report which was the greatest
improvement among the top 25% of countries ranked. The report ranks the price competitiveness of
India's tourism sector 13th out of 140 countries. It mentions that India has quite good air transport
infrastructure - ranked 33rd, particularly given the country's stage of development, and reasonable

ground and port infrastructure - ranked 28th. The country also scores high on natural resources -
ranked 14th), and cultural resources and business travel - ranked 8th.
The Tourist Places that I want to promote from Warangal District are the Warangal fort, the Thousand
pillar temple, Ramappa temple, Bhadra kali temple, the major tanks Ramappa, Lakhanavaram, Pakhal
and Ghanapuram.
The country that I choose to export tourism from Warangal District is China. Despite big campaigns
and e-visa facilities, only 2.40 lakh Chinese tourists visited India last year against 14 lakh Indians who
visited China. Countries all over the world are making a big pitch for attracting Chinese tourists as their
numbers have crossed 144 million last year, the highest in the world.
India is revamping its tourism strategy in China, including opening of a full-fledged regional tourist
office here headed by a top bureaucrat, as it pitches for attracting a good chunk of the country's 144
million tourists.
China will now have an India Tourism Office, which will be headed by an IAS or IFS officer. It will also
have a strategy advisor besides a public relations agency to launch campaigns, Minister of State for
Tourism K J Alphons said here.
The regional director will be assisted by a strategy advisor and a PR group to woo Chinese tourists. A
similar office will also be established in New York, he said.
India for long had an office of the tourism ministry known as the Incredible India Tourism Office in
Beijing.
But it remained headless for over a year till 2016 and later apparently, it was shutdown, even after
Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended e-visa facility to Chinese tourists during his visit here 2015.

14 lakh Indians who visited China. Countries all over the world are making a big pitch for attracting

It is just enough for India to get 10 per cent of Chinese tourists in five years which could be about 14
lakh, Alphons said.
India has all basic things like good hotels with food and water facilities. India has a very large number
of Chinese restaurants though some of them are spicy, Alphons said.
Tourism from China to India is not picking up also because of lack of campaigns. A
The Strategy that I would follow to attract Chinese tourists to visit Warangal District is designing Online
Campaigns on digital platforms and offline Campaigns at Airports, Railway Stations and other travelling
and visiting places where Chinese are available. The Campaign’s I design shows the glory of Warangal
Districts followed by insights into its history and richness.
