Tips for Good Presentations

Yes, this slide is poorly designed, on purpose. We will address this momentarily.
Why Do a Slide Show?
• Focus audience attention
• Keep yourself organized
Title Slide
• Always include a title slide
• Identify the topic
Keep It Simple!
• Simple background
• Up to 7 lines per slide
• Up to 7 words per line
• Large, readable text
• Use a few simple graphics
• Avoid distractions
Font Example sizes
• Simple background (font is 32 on this line)
• Up to 7 lines per slide (font is 28 on this line)
• Up to 7 words per line (font is 24 on this line – too small)

• Large, readable text (font is 36)


• Use a few simple graphics (40)

• Use consistent font sizes as much as possible (not like this slide!)(18)

checking speling or

Add as much

• To start a slide show, press the F5 button, OR
go to the Slide Show Tab and click desired
button OR click the Slide Show next to the
zoom slider

• To exit the slide show, press the ESC key , or


click the button to bring up the menu on the
slide.

I set a picture as the
background of this slide and
changed the transparency so
the words would show up
clearly.

• I changed the direction of the
background gradient on this slide.
• It also has word animations.

Required PowerPoint Design Elements

• For the purpose of this project, use


backgrounds, not themes (Solid colors,
gradients, picture or texture fills)
• It is fine to use the Microsoft Themes for
projects, but know that other students may
use the same theme

• Change font style, but use the same font
throughout the presentation.

• Insert picture - optional: animated clip art

Animations are special visual effects applied to
text and objects. Two types of animations are:
• Slide Transitions
• Word Animations

Most of the time, word animations are unnecessary. Use them


only if you want the lines to appear separately.

Steps to creating Questions
1. Create a question slide
2. Create a slide indicating a correct answer (Good Job!
Or You Got it Right!)
3. On the question slide, select the correct answer and
hyperlink it to the “Correct Answer” slide using the
Insert Tab.
4. On the question slide, select the incorrect answers
(one at a time) and hyperlink them to the with the
information to answer the question.
5. On the slide with the information, create a text box or
word art saying “Back to Question” and hyperlink it
back to the question slide.
6. Test the slide several times to be sure it is right.
