Roland V-Drums Catalog

The Worldwide Leader in

Electronic Percussion Systems.
At Roland, designing the ultimate electronic percussion system has been an obsession since 1992. That’s because Roland
believes drummers shouldn’t have to compromise their playing technique to enjoy the flexibility and sounds offered by electronic
percussion systems. And so with the original Roland Compact Drum Systems of the early 1990s came many electronic percus-
sion “firsts,” like cymbal choke play, hi-hat play and dual-triggering functions.

Not satisfied with these innovations, Roland went on to develop the revolutionary V-Drums®, which debuted in 1997. Using
Composite Object Sound Modeling, or COSM®, the V-Drums gave percussionists the ability to precisely tune and shape
individual drum size and depth, head type and tuning, muffling, and even snare strainer adjustment. And thanks to its mesh-
head V-PadsTM and positional sensing technology, playing the V-Drums was amazingly natural.

While the dynamic V-Pads could convincingly simulate the feel of an acoustic
snare and toms, there was still one component left untouched until recently:
the cymbal. This was the “missing link” that, until now, seemed impossible to
duplicate. But Roland engineers persevered, spending years testing designs
until they felt they had created a cymbal worthy of the V-Drums logo. The
result is the new V-CymbalTM, featured in the new flagship V-Drums set and
compatible with the full range of electronic drum systems—proving once again
that Roland is the electronic percussion company.
With The V-Drums I have a tool that
not only accommodates me on the
physical expression level, It also allows
me to open up my imagination on a
sound creation level as well.
The V-Drums have given me a whole
New Rainbow of colors to work with!

After checking out the current generation

of electronic drums, I settled on the Roland
V-Drums. The pads are sensitive, resilient,
and satisfying to play, and the sounds are
high-quality, nicely varied, and versatile.
The complete rig is useful, easy to use,
and—most of all—fun.
The Most Advanced
Electronic Percussion Set in History.
As the most powerful and complete V-Drums system to date, this set is based upon the acclaimed TD-10
Percussion Sound Module and TDW-1 Wave and System Expansion Board with V-Cymbal Control, giving drum-
mers over 1,000 unique sounds with enhanced dynamics and sensitivity—not to mention the powerful COSM
drum modeling, onboard effects and icon-based user interface which have made the V-Drums so popular.
While drummers will immediately notice the sleek new metallic red color, more convenient and durable hard-
ware, and incredibly dynamic new V-Cymbals, also noteworthy is the inclusion of a KD-120 V-Kick pad.

The Secret’s in the Pads.
V-Pads
Developed in partnership with REMO Inc. USA, Roland V-Pads offer
the most expressive and dynamic electronic percussion triggering on
the market. In fact, these near-silent pads are so sensitive you can
even play them with brushes! A proprietary drum head design gives
these patented drum pads extremely natural rebound and response,
allowing percussionists to tune and play them just like an acoustic set.
The 12-inch PD-120 employs a dual-trigger system, making it perfect
for snare drum, while the 10-inch PD-100 is ideal for toms.

The KD-120 V-Kick is a sturdy, super-accurate kick drum triggering pad based on the

engineered to feel like a full-sized bass drum. Thanks to its revolutionary design, the
KD-120 also offers just the right amount of rebound, as well dramatically reduced
tremble and superior, noise-free performance.

TD-10 Percussion Sound Module

A dramatic advancement in the world of electronic percussion,
the V-Drums TD-10 Percussion Sound Module is the
cumulative result of over 25 years of musical instrument
research and design. Combining a revolutionary sound engine
based on proprietary Composite Object Sound Modeling
(COSM) technology and ultra-expressive V-Editing, the
V-Drums TD-10 module gives drummers unparalleled sound
quality and the most intuitive electronic percussion interface
on the planet.

Incredible Playability
REAR VIEW
Once sounds have been selected and shaped using V-Editing (see below),
they can be played with maximum expression and nuance, thanks to the
TD-10’s lightning-fast, super-accurate triggering with innovative Positional
Sensing technology—giving you different timbres of sound depending upon
the location of the drum hit. This feature alone translates into a supremely
realistic playing experience beyond other electronic percussion systems.

V-Editing: Shaping Your Sound, One Drum at a Time

Ever wonder what a 20-inch wood snare drum would sound like in a cave? What about a 1-inch metal piccolo in your bathroom with an off-set condenser
mic? Whereas other sound modules let drummers change only a few parameters of a preset drum sample, V-Editing lets you sonically “model” drum
type, drum shell material, drum depth, drum head type, drum tuning, muffling, microphone type, microphone placement, room ambience, effects and
EQ—all via an intuitive icon-driven user interface. So finally, you can shape your sounds in the environments of your choice, with complete control.

HPD-15 An Electronic Hand Percussion Pad with
V-Drums Technology.
The Roland HPD-15 HandSonic is an electronic hand percussion multi-
pad with incredible triggering capabilities based on breakthrough
V-Drums technology. Divided into 15 parts, the HPD-15 allows hand
percussionists to play up to 15 sounds simultaneously with all the
sensitivity that the Roland V-Drums are famous for. There are 600
onboard percussion sounds taken from all over the world—including Latin
countries, southeast Asia, China, India, the Middle East, and Africa—plus
electronic drums and sound effects that can be played intuitively by any
hand percussionist.

Expressive Realtime Control

A host of powerful controllers can be used to modulate pitch, timbre, and
other instrument parameters in real time, making the HandSonic even
more expressive. With its exclusive D-Beam controller in particular,
percussionists can trigger the onboard sounds or alter an instrument’s
tuning simply by waving their hands over an infrared beam of light. Other
REAR VIEW realtime modifiers include two ribbon controllers, an expression pedal
input, and three control knobs for nearly unlimited expression.
