DIALOG (SPEAKER 1)

Interviewer : Assalamua‘laikum

Speaker : Waa'laikum Salam

Interviewer : Well, actually I want to ask several things about the learning process while the
you teach at Darul Ulum.

Speaker : Oh okay.

Interviewer : So, what grade do you teach Miss?

Speaker : Oh yes, now I teach at Islamic Boarding School Darul Ulum Jambo Tape. and
I teach for third grade and second grade.

Interviewer : Well, base on your experience as a teacher here, Can you tell me what kind of
method that you use in the teaching and learning process?

Speaker : Actually I am just teaching here this year, because I previously taught
elsewhere. So during the learning process here, I used several methods. This
actually depends on what material itself. For example, if I teach about
descriptive text, there are 2 ways that I usually use, jigsaw and pairs. The
system, first, I will show pictures to students whether they are pictures of
buildings or animals, and then they must describe in English, after that, the calss
move to presentation session where students must present to other friends from
different groups.

Interviewer : So Miss, besides jigsaw, are there other methods that you use in teaching
normally?

Speaker : Yes, for other methods, usually I often use the silent way method, so students
are more active in discussing fellow friends too.

Interviewer : So it’s means that the method can change depending on the material right?

Speaker : Yes that's right, because the teacher can't be monotonous, waiting for the
students to get bored, so we adjust it first with the learning material. yes
depending on whether it is speaking, listening, reading, grammar or
pronunciation. of course sometimes we use different methods to deliver the
materials for students.

Interviewer : Oh okay, that means we have to adjust it. Oh yeah, - as long as you teach here,
what is the biggest challenge that you faced while teaching ?

Speaker : Em…. the biggest challenge ? , the first is about “ students' interest” in
learning, if in Darul Ulum itself , the lessons begin from 08.00 until 12.30 then
there are dayah lessons from 2.30 to 5.00. So sometimes they are tired and as a
teacher we must be able to motivate the student in learning. Secondly, they are
lazy to bring the dictionary in the class.

Interviewer : So ... how do you deal with that kind of problem?. You know, Because of
course sometimes the student difficult to manage the time?

Speaker : If their not bring a dictionary, then, sit in groups that at least has one dictionary
is the best solution so they can see their friend's dictionary and discuss the
material too. and sometimes i identify what is the most difficult word in the
sentence, then write it on the board and explain its meaning. they can also ask
their friend about some difficult vocabularies. The goal is to make them more
active and independent, so I don't directly answer all their questions.
Interviewer : Oh that interesting, so this is really more like a student center right?

Speaker : Yes basically the teacher and students must be equally active, but in this
context the teacher must provide more opportunities for students to be more
active.

Interviewer : Beside from the challenges that you mentioned earlier, are there other more
complex problems that you face?

Speaker : Actually, some problems come because it influences of the student’s mood..
other challenges if there are too many students in a class with different
characters, yes, we as teachers must be able to make them all having fun
through learning, because some students have an active role in the class and
some only as passive students, it’s means that they don't participate too much in
class. especially if the books provided by the curriculum are sometimes not in
accordance with the level of understanding of each student.

Interviewer : Yes, it means that indeed at each level of the class the characters are different
then the level of activity is also different right?

Speaker : Yes, it is very true for the level of activity, sometimes second grade students
are more active than third grade. So it is very important for teachers to be able to
adapt also in using certain methods so that the material to be taught is delivered
to students.

Interviewer : Okay, well Miss, so the method that you use is depends on the material right?

Speaker : Yes that's right

Interviewer : Alright miss, thank you very much for being interviewed today and for the
information.

Speaker : Yes, you're welcome.

DIALOG (SPEAKER 2)

Interviewer : Assalamualaikum

Speaker : Waalaikumsalam

Interviewer : How are you Miss.

Speaker : So far so good.

Interviewer : oh… actually I want to ask some question related to your teaching method ?

speaker : oh may you please

Interviewer : So I want to find out what method you used to teach in English class?

Speaker : Actually the method I use varies depending on the class conditions. However,
I often uses the silent way method and also the discussion method.

Interviewer : oh well, so how do you apply it in the classroom Miss ?

Speaker : Usually when the silent way and discussion method, I ask them to analyze the
text with their group and then explain it to the front of the class individually.

Interviewer : Oh it’s means if the material has changed then the method also changed?

Speaker : Yes, Of course. if speaking class, especifically students should be more active
in expressing their opinions. Then if for the conversation I told them to go
forward in pairs to the front of the class to practice.

Interviewer : well, as long as you teach English are there any difficulties that you face?

Speaker : while teaching, it’s hard for student to understand the whole material, it is
triggered because they are not accustomed to using English. Especially I teach
in vocational schools, where they do more practical work than theory.

Interviewer : So how do you deal with kind of that problem?

Speaker : Actually, to overcome such things starting from the teacher itself, we must be
able to bring atmosphere, and provide explanations to students more simply,
invite students to get closer and familiar with the material we teach by linking
it to daily life.

Interviewer : Does that affected to student interest Miss?

Speaker : Of course, in school students learn many things at once, and it also influences
their concentration and interest in learning languages.

Interviewer : okay miss. Thanks for the information

Speaker : You're welcome

d) Analysis the results of the interview.

METHOD

Speaker 1

Based on the information from the resource person. The methods used in the teaching
and learning process sometimes have to be adapted to the conditions of students and their
classes and also depend on what material to be discussed. For example, In teaching
descriptive text, the resource person uses a jigsaw or pairs system, the first thing to do is
provide examples of images to students in the form of buildings then instruct students to
describe them directly in English and then each student must present and share to other
students sitting in groups. In addition, speakers also use the silent way method to increase
student interest in learning the material.

Speaker 2

Based of the information of the second personal resource that the use of silent method
is more simply and effective to use to implemented student center in the classroom. It can
improve the student skill in group discussion especially in analyzing the text. So that they can
be more critical in explaining the text related to their own opinion and know how to deal with
other student in making decision.

CHALLENGE

Speaker 1

According to the resource person, the biggest challenge in teaching English is “student
interest” in learning and also a change in student enthusiasm. So as a teacher must be able to
motivate students deeply in the learning process. Another problem, some students not bring
the dictionary. Students are more likely to expect all the material and explanation from
teacher and the solution is that each student is given an assignment that they have to
complete personally but sit in groups where at least each group must have one dictionary. In
other cases, too many students in one class is also a challenge because of the many different
characters that sometimes do not fit into each other, there are active and passive ones. and
sometimes teaching material that related to the syllabus and guided by books provided in the
curriculum also causes some problems such as student level of understanding and unsuitable
material with some students, so the teacher must take other resources for the easier material,
it is more useful to facilitate students in understanding the context material more simply .

Speaker 2

According to the second personal resource that the most challenging in teaching
English for student is when the student hard to understand what has been taught in the class.
And there are some materials that provided in the book is not suitable with the students
understanding. And it effected to the student interest to participate in asking and answering
the question in the class.
CHAPTER III

CLOSING

A. CONCLUSION

The conclusion that drew from the results of the interview is the method the teacher
used depends on the material, the most use is making groups discussion. The biggest
challenge lies in the interests and differences in the character of each student. So as a teacher
should prepare themselves from the beginning because the role of a teacher is not only to
share the information or knowledge for student but also also must be able to educate the
student according to their behavior and their intelligent. Teacher need to ensure that
information conveyed to students is conveyed.

B. CLOSING

Thus we report the results of this interview with the truth. Thanks to the Almighty God
Allah SWT. This report is not only to complete the English Teaching Methodology course,
but also to increase our attention to the problems that often faced by teachers in teaching
English, so that later it will be easier for us in the process of solving problems related to the
experiences we have learned.
