The document discusses Dynamic Progress Method (DPM), Critical Chain Method, and Resource Loading in construction project management. DPM aims to establish a realistic baseline plan and simulate resource allocation to identify risks and acceleration options. Critical Chain Method accounts for limited resources by adding buffer time to maintain focus on task durations. Resource Loading assigns labor, materials, and equipment to tasks, while Resource Leveling balances project needs with available time and resources.

WHAT IS A DYNAMIC PROGRESS METHOD ?

By definition of each word :

• Dynamic – an underlyig cause of change or growth

• Progress- movement forward or toward a place
A DYNAMIC PROGRESS METHOD

Is an approach for estimating the cost and schedule of a

project by operationally simulating the allocation of
resources on each project task to accomplish various
management action that might be taken to change the
allocation of resources and the productivity impacts of these
changes on the resources.
DYNAMIC PROGRESS METHOD
The Dynamic Progress Method (DPM) aims to remove these
flaws from project planning because they are big contributors
to the mismanagement of many projects. One of the biggest
risks in project management is to start with an unrealistic
(and perhaps unachievable) baseline project plan.

Thus, one of the first goals of the DPM is to establish a more

realistic baseline plan for a given project so that the
expectations (and subsequent commitments) are reasonable
and achievable.
DYNAMIC PROGRESS METHOD

• Provides actionable information to make decisions

before problems occur.
• Prevents resource allocation issues.
• Shows which corrective actions are most effective
and for which circumstances.
• Identifies high risk areas.
• Quantifies project acceleration options and shortest
possible duration.
Primary USES OF DPM

• Project validation:
– Task execution
– Management corrective actions
• Project acceleration:
– Cost and labor consequences of acceleration
– Theoretical shortest duration
Critical Chain Planning

What is CRITICAL CHAIN METHOD?
Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) is a method of planning
and managing projects that emphasizes the resources (people,
equipment, physical space) required to execute project tasks.

The Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) is a technique that

modifies the project schedule to account for limited resources by
adding duration buffers that are non-work schedule activities to
maintain focus on the planned activity durations.

CCPM is based on the idea that all projects and all activities converge
to a final deliverable.

Critical chain takes CPM a step further by adding time buffers to

account for limited resources.
Critical Chain Method
Critical chain project management helps you
identify both resource and task dependencies to
help you complete projects as efficiently as
possible.
Critical Chain Method
So to sum it all up.
For critical chain method, you would:
 Take resource constraints / dependencies into account when planning
projects
 Plan a workflow that is near-optimum (or "good enough")
 Add explicit time buffers to your project plan (project buffer, feeding
buffers, and resource buffers)
 Monitor project health based on how quickly you are consuming your
buffers
Implementing critical chain project management
helps us through:

 Organizations that adopt CCPM experience much more timely project

completion.
 By focusing on the resources needed to complete a project, project managers
create a process that is simple and easy to manage.
 Critical chain project management allows a team to see the entire project
lifecycle.
 Most importantly, it helps them see how their efforts move the project
forward.
Resource Loading

Resource
a stock or supply of money, materials, staff, and other assets that can be drawn
on by a person or organization in order to function effectively.

In project management, resources are required to carry out the project tasks.
They can be people, equipment, facilities, funding, or anything else capable of
definition (usually other than labor) required for the completion of a project
activity

Storable resources remain available unless depleted by usage, and may be

replenished by project tasks which produce them.

Non-storable resources must be renewed for each time period, even if not
used in previous time periods.
Resource Loading

Resource loading is the assignment of labor, materials & equipment that will be
required to successfully complete a particular task or activity.

With resource loading, a project manager can predict an employee's hours for the
year and see how tasks can be assigned. This also allows the project manager to
decide whether or not additional employees or contractors are needed to complete
the scheduled projects.
Importance of resource loading
 Estimation of the cost and quantity of resources is very essential at
the time of making a budget for the project. Resource loading is
basically allocating resources to the activities at the right time.
Project Manager, with the help of resource loading can calculate the
employee working hours and do the allocation of various tasks.
Based upon these calculations, the project manager can also predict
if he needs to add any employees to the project team for the
completion of the project.
Resource Leveling
While resource loading mainly deals with manpower, resource leveling deals with
both time (project starting and ending date) and resources, including manpower and
budget. Resource leveling tries to balance the conflicting interests of projects with
the available resources.

Resource leveling generally breaks things down into two categories: time and
available resources. Some projects need to be finished within a certain time
frame. These projects will use all the available resources (money and manpower) to
complete the project by a certain date.
Importance of resource leveling

 Deals with time and project resources which includes the project
budget and manpower.
 It balances the needs of the project with respect to the available
resources at every stage of the project.
