For AY 2015-2016, Ang Kanda staffers and aspiring writers first convened for the preparation of sports
coverage for Intramurals (July 3, 2015) on July 1 and 2, 2015. Ms. Donna C. Regulto gave lectures on
Sports Writing. Meanwhile, Mrs. Joan Kathleen T. Brizuela taught techniques in photojournalism. Mrs.
Ana D. Arandia and Mrs. Maritess N. Quesea taught the basics of news writing. After the coverage of the
sports events, Ang Kanda staffers were identified and listed. On July 24-25, the staffers once again
covered sports events in Municipal Meet as part of their trainings.
The annual Division Schools Press Conference was conducted at Atimonan District on October 24-26,
2015. The continuous effort of the Division of Quezon to promote the development and growth of
campus journalism in strong support of R.A. 7079 also known as Campus Journalism Act of 1991 was
reflected in this activity as this year’s conference had more than a thousand delegates from both
elementary and secondary schools all over the province. As regular attendees of this conference, Ang
Kanda staffers once again participated in DSPC.
To train the staffers and select the individual contestants, the advisers Mrs. Ana Arandia and Ms. Donna

of Lutucan NHS for the journalists from different high schools in the town to have training and individual
competitions. It was conducted at Canda NHS on August 7-9, 2015 and participated in by the aspiring
campus journalism from all public high schools in Sariaya. The results of the individual contests gave the
advisers some ideas on who performed well and could join to DSPC and win the contests.
The announcement of the details in joining DSPC was held at the training of school paper advisers
attended by Mrs. Joan Kathleen T. Brizuela on September 9-11, 2015 at Sevilla’s Resort, Lucena City. It
was emphasized that the participating school must submit the school paper as a requirement before
joining the individual competitions for students. Thus, the preparation for the school paper side by side
the selection and training of individual contestants started. Moreover, the articles centered on the
theme “The Role of 21st Century Journalist in Upholding Good Governance, Leadership and
Transparency” as announced by Mrs. Jennifer Lopez, Regional EPS for English and Campus Journalism.
Meanwhile, some of the staffers accompanied by Ms. Donna C. Regulto covered the sports events at the
Congressional Meet at San Antonio, Quezon on September 9-10, 2015.
