I. Course Title: (Differential and Integral Calculus)

II. Course Description:

This course introduces to students the fundamentals of Calculus: functions,
limits, continuity, derivatives and integrals. It focuses on applications of calculus on
problems involving rate of change, optimization, and obtaining area. This course
assumes a thorough understanding of concepts on analytic geometry and trigonometry.
Moreover, this course helps students develop the logical reasoning skills necessary to
make critical decisions in the workplace as well as in their personal lives. The
mathematical theory is developed to the point necessary to substantiate the
mathematical foundation needed for computer science.

III. Course Credit: 3 units

V. Course General Objectives:

At the end of the course, the students are expected to:
1. Discuss the ideas (like functions, limits, derivatives, etc) from graphical
numerical and analytical point of view.
2. Demonstrate logical reasoning, critical and analytical thinking skills in problem
solving
3. Use calculus as a tool to solve real life problems
4. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in applying calculus to scientific endeavor
5. Demonstrate patience, confidence, and perseverance in curve sketching and
problem solving
6. Demonstrate interpersonal skills in working on teams and teaching each other
on various exercises
7. Demonstrate self-reliance in working independently on various exercises
8. Recognize the role of systematic planning in solving problems
9. Demonstrate thinking skills in graphing polynomial functions using ruler and
pencil
10. Relate polynomial functions to technology that makes effective use of
scientific and graphing calculators
