Pondok Moderen Darussalam Gontor is an Islamic boarding school. The students in the Modern
Darussalam Gndor Pndok make students produce a lot of sweat. With the amount of sweat
produced, it triggers several health problems. One health problem that often occurs is the
problem of body odor. Body odor can be caused by various things, including:
- genetic
- psychiatric problems
- food factor
- obesity
- bacteria
Some of the bacteria that often cause body odor problems are:
- Staphylococcus epidermidis,
- Corynebacterium acne,
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Streptococcus pyogenes.
Staphylococcus epidermidis is a normal bacteria in humans that is found in the skin and in
certain circumstances can cause disease in humans. naturally lives on the skin membrane and
human mucous membrane.
There are several ways to overcome the problem of body odor, one of which is to use bath soap.
Soap is a product that is used as a cleaner with water media. In addition, it can also use natural
ingredients, one of which is green tea leaves (Camellia sinensis).
Green tea has functional values such as antioxidants, cholesterol-lowering, anti-bacterial, anti-
virus, inhibiting tumor growth.
The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum formulation of bar soap preparations
with green tea leaf extract (Camellia sinensis) as a prevention of body odor caused by
Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria.
Previously researched by:
1. Asri Widyasanti in 2016, entitled the research of Making Transparent Solid Soap Using Palm
Oil With the Addition of Active White Extracts
2. Adek Chan in 2016, entitled Formulation of Solid Bath Soap Formulation from Extracts of
Apples (Malus domesticus) as a Skin Beauty Soap
3. Erna Widyasari in 2018 with the title research on Staphylococcus aureus Exterminating
Explosive Leaf Soap Oil.
The difference between this research and previous studies are:
1. Green tea leaves in a study conducted by Erna widyasari used as perfume. Whereas in this
study, researchers used green tea leaf extract as an active ingredient, and used a lemon deodorant
2. From the first and second studies, researchers used white tea and apple ingredients. Whereas
in this study, researchers used green tea leaf extract.
This research will be conducted at the Laboratory of Pharmacy, University of Gontor, Mantingan
Campus, on 1 - 20 October 2019. And for the evaluation of bar soap preparations conducted at
the University of Darussalam Gontor Putri to a number of respondents
