children. Doing Home Work is not an easy task for students without guidance. Frequent meetings
with mothers are required. So Roshan Sitara School takes the charge to call two meetings in first

Why Homework?

A teacher’s task of teaching is incomplete if her effort is not supplemented by written/oral

assignment. To ensure follow up of learning. It is absolutely vital to revise and review the learning
task shared in the class room.

What is Homework?

Home work, or Home is the task assigned to students by their teachers to be completed mostly at
home. Homework usually includes a reading to be performed, writing to be completed, problems to
be solved or other skills to be practiced. Homework ensures that learning is solidified and
strengthened. Assigning class work or home work as a follow up to learning tasks is an effective
means of the learners’ participation and retention of material. It will help increase the knowledge.

Main Objectives for Homework are:

 To increase the knowledge and improve the abilities and skills of the students.
 To reinforce what students have already learned.
 To prepare them for upcoming (complex and difficult) lessons, extend what they know by
having them apply it to new situations, or to integrate their abilities by applying many
different skills to a single task.
 Homework also provides an opportunity for parents to participate in their children’s
education.

Specific instructions
Clear instructions are follow up of goals. The words used for instructions must be familiar
and easily understood by students. Teacher must ensure that she can explain and discuss the
homework before they attempt.
 Orally e.g. they must be able to differentiate between ‘explain, discuss and describe’
 Ensure that every student hears, receives and writes down instructions. Using the
white board is also an art. Direct their attention to it and do not erase anything until
it is seen or written by all.
 When planning homework, keep in mind, the time required in completing the given
task. Ensure that you make the learners independently responsible for the tasks.

time. For grade Nursery and Prep, one subject Homework is recommended.
Homework/Assignment Checking

 Thorough and accurate checking is expected from the teachers. Read each and every
word carefully while correcting, even commas and full stops should not be ignored.

 Write focused, short and directly to the point encouraging remarks. Remarks should
be comprehensive and clear to students.

 Correct only with red pen. Teachers’ writing Is expected to be beautiful without any
spelling mistakes. In fact teachers are facilitating student’s learning through
notebook checking.

 Before checking a teacher should always see the previous page to check whether the
student’s previous work is checked or any instruction given by the teacher Is
followed or not.

 Checking criteria will be different for class Nursery to class two. Children’s effort is to
be appreciated and recognized that they put into work. A teacher can bring an
amazing positive change with just a few words of verbal praise/encouragement and
drawing simple symbols for their good work and effort on notebook.

 Students should be excited while receiving their notebooks.

Self Correction:

 Self- correction is a very useful learning activity at all levels from class one onward.
Students learn better from mistakes they have corrected themselves. This activity
should be conducted in pairs or groups.

 The teacher should encourage the students to consult each other. Common mistakes
with correction should be written on the white board by the teacher to facilitate
students. This activity should be done in 10-12 minutes.

 The teacher will check the corrections after students have gone through peer
checking.

 Students need to be trained for this method. Parents need to be informed about the
usefulness of this method in parent’s meeting.

For Remarks: Tell students what you have written in their note books.

 All the checked mistakes should be underlined and written again on next page for
practice.

 Stars and smiley faces are very attractive for junior class students.

 I am extremely happy with your work.
