Auto Cad 3D Civil: 1. Array Layout Drawing

This document provides steps for creating cut and fill quantities in AutoCAD 3D Civil using contour data, array layout blocks, and surface modeling. It describes creating existing ground level (EGL), feature line (FL), and comparison surfaces (+100 and -100) to calculate cut and fill volumes. It also outlines additional analysis tools like slopes, slope arrows, spot elevations, and profiles.

AUTO CAD 3D CIVIL

1. Array layout Drawing

a. Check the units (Preferably it should in metres)

b. Arrays should be in block instead of in polyline.
c. Draw Centreline for the block (i.e. array layout block) and delete rectangles.
d. Draw Polyline for array layout periphery (polyline should be drawn such that
it will not touch array Layout lines). Maintain an offset distance of about
750mm.
e. Except the layers of centreline and polyline, switch off (Freeze) all the other
layers.

2. Topography drawing - open this file in AUTOCAD 3D Civil (metric)

a. Contours with elevation values (Select contour line – check properties, in that
elevation value should be indicated)
b. Check the units (Normally it will be in metres) – same as Array layout dwg.
c. Retain only contour lines and switch off all other unwanted layers.

3. In Auto cad 3D Civil, Check the units

a. Type UNITS in Command line – Tool bar will be opened and Check the units
(usually it should in metres)
b. In Tool space command – Go to Settings – Select Units in that and check units
of all parameters like (Distance, Elevation, Volume, Area etc.
c. In Volume Dash board – Check the units displayed.

Steps to get CUT and FILL Quantities

Step 1: Creating Existing Ground level (EGL) Surface
a. Go to Surface Command in the Tool space.
b. Right Click and select Create Surface - Name it as “EGL”
c. Select Definition – Right click contour – Add
d. Select all the contour lines
e. To check, Right Click the boundary surface – Click Object view.
f. We can see Rendering view of Topography.
g. Copy the Polyline and centreline of Array layout from Array layout dwg and
Paste in topography dwg with Coordinates. (or paste with reference points)
h. Check whether polylines are going out of “EGL “
i. Switch off the contour layer. And explode the centreline arrays.

Step 2: Create Feature line

a. In main tool bar, Select Feature line.
b. Select, Create Feature line from Objects.
c. In feature Line tool bar, deselect(untick) erase Existing Entitles option
And select(tick) Assign Elevation - Click Ok.
d. Deselect(untick) Intermediate Grade break points.

Step 3: Creating Feature line (level) (FL) Surface

a. Go to Surface Command in the Tool space.
b. Right Click and select Create Surface - Name it as “FL”
c. Select Definition –Right click Break lines – Add - ok
d. Select all the Array lines inside the Polyline (See to it that polyline is not
selected) And click OK
e. Select Definition –Right click Boundaries – Add -Select Polyline of the array
layout.

Step 4: Creating Feature line +100 (level) (FL +100) Surface

a. Go to Surface Command in the Tool space.
b. Right Click and select Create Surface - Name it as “FL+100”
c. Under FL+100, Select Definition –EDIT – PASTE SURFACE – Select FL
d. Under FL+100, Select Definition –EDIT – Raise – 0.1

Step 5: Creating Feature line -100 (level) (FL -100) Surface

a. Go to Surface Command in the Tool space.
b. Right Click and select Create Surface - Name it as “FL-100”
c. Under FL-100, Select Definition –EDIT – PASTE SURFACE – Select FL
d. Under FL-100, Select Definition –EDIT – Raise – -0.1

Step 6: Results
a. Click Analise in Toolbar.
b. Select Volume Dash board
c. Click Create new Volume surface
d. Rename as “cut “
e. Base surface – “EGL”
f. Comparison – “FL+100”
g. Rename as “Fill “
h. Base surface – “EGL”
i. Comparison – “FL-100”

In Cut Results – we need to consider only Cut quantities ignore fill quantities
In FILL Results – we need to consider only FILL quantities ignore CUT quantities.

Note:
When there is huge difference between CUT and Fill quantities, follow the below
procedure.
If fill/cut is more than cut/fill.
Go to Surface Command in the Tool space.
Select “FL”, Select Definition –EDIT – Raise – -0.05/+0.05(Trial and Error)
Right Click on All surfaces Except EGL, Select Rebuild automatic.
