RESCUE PROCEDURE
1. CONTACT EMERGENCY SQUAD MEMBER (ESM). ESM will activate rescue team and first-aider/medical personnel (if
necessary).
2. Safety Attendant must not attempt to enter the confined space at all time and must provide detailed information
upon arrival of the rescue team.
3. If rescue requires hauling to retrieve casualty, place the retrieval system at confined space exit (eg manhole)
before entry is allowed (tripod, harness, rescue/safety line, carabineers, pulley, and shock absorbers).
4. Monitor atmospheric conditions in the work area prior to rescue team entry. ENTER ONLY IF ATMOSPHERIC
CONDITIONS ARE DEEMED SAFE AND USING APPROPRIATE RESCUE AND PROTECTIVE GEAR.
5. Evaluate situation and/or injuries, stabilize casualty during evacuation.
6. Rescue team members attending to casualty must maintain constant communication with members operating the
hauling or other form of retrieval system. Rescuers and attendants must communicate when to lower/raise
casualty, stop or give some slack.
7. Protect/support casualty as he is being removed from the work area.
8. Casualty will receive attention immediately upon rescue (exit) from First-aider.
9. Subsequently, casualty will be referred to proper medical personnel for follow-up treatment.
