Assignment 1-Power Electronics

The document describes simulating a three-phase thyristor converter with varying source and load parameters over six cases. For each case, it requests waveforms showing input current, thyristor voltage, output current, output voltage, and line-line voltage at the point of common coupling.

1.

Develop a simulation model using MATLAB (or suitable other package) for three-phase thyristor
converter fed by a balanced three-phase supply of rms line voltage (VL), frequency (fs) and source
inductance (Ls) per phase and resistance (rs) per phase, serving a load of resistance (RL) and inductance
(LL). Use delay angle (α1) for upper 3 thyristors, and delay angle (α2) for lower 3 thyristors. Simulate
the model for the following cases, and give wave forms of output voltage, output current, input
current of phase “a”, voltage across thyristor no:1 and the line-line voltage VAB at the point of
common coupling.

Line voltage at VAB at the PCC needs to be given for cases (ii), (iv) & (vi) only. All waveforms must be
steady state waveforms.
