ESTIMATING and BIDDING GUIDE

BATTERBOARD

1. To estimate the lumber to be used as batterboard for the layout, compute the lineal meter of
the structure all around giving an allowance or margin of 1.00. Count also the number of
stakes to be used. Multiply the number of stakes by 1.2 (length of stake) and add the sum to
the first lineal meter of the structure. The total lineal meter change to lineal foot. Then
compute the board depending to the size of the lumber to be used as batterboard (2x2 or
2x3).

2. To estimate the nails to be used, divide the total board foot by 1000 then multiplied by factor
15 to get number of kilos. If by keg, divide the total board foot by factor 2500 equals keg of
nails.

3. To estimate guide wire #12 to be used in layouting, divide the total board foot by 4000 to
obtain roll of wire.

EXCAVATION

To estimate the volume of excavation, compute the area to be excavated then multiply by the
depth.

For cut and fill excavation, use the prismoidal formula

A¹ + A² x depth or length
= cu. mt.
2

BACKFILL

To estimate backfilling or gravel bed, multiply the width, the length and the depth or thickness
(w x l x d)

If the backfilling will be compacted add 10% for compaction and 3% for wastage.

CONCRETE

To estimate volume or cubic meter of concrete, use same formula as of backfilling.

To obtain bag of cement, cu.m. of sand and cu.m. of gravel, determined the class of mixture or
psi required. Then cu.m. of concrete multiply by the given factor of mixture.

Notes:

1. No septic tank shall be installed within or under the house.

2. Tanks must be built water tight of concrete stone or bricks or CHB.
3. Both compartments are provided with manholes and tight covers for cleaning and necessary
repairs.
4. Inlet and outlet are submerged and arranged in such a way that neither sludge nor scum be
unduly disturbed.
5. The vault is vented thru sanitary tee in the outlet and outlet and inlet having top and open
and screen to make the tank mosquito proof.
6. Bottom of the tank should slope 1.10 minimum towards the manhole in the center to
facilitate cleaning.
7. Not less than 0.20 meter of air space should be left between the top of the sewage and the
underpart of the tank.
8. Additional length of 1.00 meter should be added to the vault for the filter (leaching well)
9. Inlet and outlet are arranged so as to deliver the sewage to the middle third of the tank
depth.
