This document provides instructions for creating a Zentangle art project using geometric shapes as outlines. Zentangle art involves drawing repetitive patterns within strings, using combinations of dots, lines, and curves. Students will brainstorm shape and pattern ideas, then finalize a design by outlining strings and patterns in black marker before coloring their zentangle drawing with warm or cool colors. The finished drawings will then be cut out and collaboratively arranged based on color scheme.

ELEMENTS and PRINCIPLES of Design – COLLABORATIVE ART
ZENTANGLE ART: • Zentangle was created by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas. • It helps increase focus, attentiveness, and creativity. • Zentangle is an abstract, relaxing technique that uses repetitive patterns.
• String - A string is generally a random line drawn in pencil which creates an area within which you draw your tangles. • Tangle (a.k.a pattern)- You create tangles with combinations of dots, lines, simple curves, S- curves and orbs (use pattern sheet provided or create your own).
Task: You will create a Zentangle drawings using warm or cool colours.
Instructions: q Brainstorm/sketch ideas: -Pick a geometric SHAPE (circle or square) as the outline or frame of your Zentangle. - You must use the elements and principles design to create 3-5 patterns within that shape to show your knowledge.
q Final Copy: - Create an outline/frame for your Zentangle drawings (in pencil) - Outline your strings and tangles using black sharpie - Colour your design using markers or pencils crayons (warm or cool colours) - Cut your shapes - Collaborate with others who have the same colour scheme and glue your Zentangle drawings onto the paper provided.
