Dr. William Gilly studies footage from a camera mounted on a Humboldt squid in his lab. The video shows a squid interacting with other members of its species and flashing lights in the distance. In 2009, he attached cameras to Humboldt squid in the Gulf of California, which can grow up to two meters long. However, one camera did not stay attached to the squid for long before it tore the camera and sleeve off its body.
