ASSALAMUA’LAIKUM WRWB.
The honorable judges, I’m rahmad alwidad fadli From LKP ENGLISH ACADEMY BATURAJA. Thanks for
the chance given to me. Today I’m about to convey my point of view of social media, young generation
and nation building.
Social media remains the most talked about things these days. Many debates are going on
regarding the fact that social media is good or bad. There are many views available to us and it is up to
us to read and understand properly and reach a conclusion.

Importance of Social Media


Social media platforms help its users to connect, share and give information and content to
millions of others. The importance of social media cannot be ignored since it plays a very crucial role in
our lives today. Here are some advantages and impacts of social media:

The impact of Social media on knowledge:


1. It Facilitates Online Learning
The use of social media has helped the students to learn through various online learning platforms
available to them. The use of YouTube to watch educational videos has helped the students to gain
wider knowledge. For example if you want to improve your speaking skill, you can watch video of
“How to improve English Speaking skill (by yourself) | Easy tips for Learners” on Youtube.

2. Access to Information
There are many groups that students can join through online platforms, that are related to their
course of study, demographic, school, environment and much more. Joining this group on
Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook and others will help the students to have access to quality information
as at when needed. If you are active on Facebook or Twitter, you can join the group such as “English
is Fun” on facebook or @EnglishClub on Twitter

3. It helps to Gain Wider Knowledge


Social media helps to enhance student academic performance and increase their knowledge
through data and information gathering. When students are been given an assignment in school,
they go through various online platforms to gather information so as to find solutions to their
assignment. For example, you can always access Google to search for your information, like “How to
Learn English for Young Learners”

The honorable judges, let’s talk about disadvantages of Social Media:


Social media is considered as one of the most harmful elements that we have in our lives these
days. Wrong use can lead to bad conclusion. There are many disadvantages of social media like:

1. Cyber bullying: many children have become the victims of cyber bullying that has caused them a
lot of harm. For example: Body shaming in the case of “Ikan Asin” Galih Ginanjar and Fairuz A.
Rafiq

2. Hacking: The loss of personal data that can lead to security issues. There are crimes like identity
theft and bank details theft that can harm any individual. For example, the hacking of Twiiter
and Pinterest account of the Facebook Founder, Mark Zurkerberg, in 2016

3. Scams: Many predators are looking for vulnerable users that they can scam and make profit off.
For example, Crypto-Ransomware which will encrypt your data and ask for money if you want
your data back.

The honorable judges, in correlation to how social media impact our life, there would be
another aspect which as impactful as social media. It’s the young generation and their roles in building
the nation; If we talk about the young generation it would be familiar to us that young people are the
next generation. we often hear in various media , both print and electronic , many young people from
junior high ,senior high, even students of university who fall into the negative things that harm
themselves , the environment and even actions that violate the law and religion . Like brawl, free sex
and drugs even the most rampant today that motorcycle gang. It's very surprising news for all of us that
60% of young people got into free sex and drugs where most of them are high school students who are
indirectly friends around us. Even, some young people commit criminal acts. If the next generation have
not quality, how to advance and develop the country? I think it’s impossible.
The honorable judges, in my conclusion of how social media and young generation correlate
each other in building this nation is let’s do the simple things because a great people do not have to do
great things but great people always start with something simple. Such as regulatory compliance,
increase the willingness and always upholds the values of local cultures. We are all expected to be the
younger generation of noble character, the younger generation who will be the pride of the family, the
nation, State and Religion. For that let us together organize our lives back, fix any shortcomings and
towards a goodness in order to create peace and harmony. Let us reflect a younger generation as the
hope of the nation's generation. We have millions of users around the world that use social media on
daily basis. There is a mixed bag of reactions regarding it. It does have a lot of importance and
advantages but also brings with it some hazards also
