INTRODUCTION
The EWF Qualification System

The EWF community provides a trusted space for welding and joining professionals from EWF member countries
to strengthen existing relationships and build new ones with peers, share knowledge and practices and co-develop
solutions on issues of common interest.

Opportunities in the manufacturing industry 4.0 are rapidly growing in response to the exponential amounts of data
being captured and analysed. Get the real-world knowledge and hands-on experience that can help you succeed in
one of these new jobs.

The EWF Qualification system has several types of professional qualifications covering welding, bonding and related
techniques.

These different technologies, as special processes, require that the quality of the product must be incorporated
during the manufacturing/maintenance, and cannot be ensured only by final testing. That entails personnel with
particular high level of knowledge, skills and competences which can be obtained through the EWF Qualification
System.

Comprehensive, Standard and Basic - E/IWI-C/-S/-B

Welding inspection requires highly qualified personnel, fundamental to ensure the adequate use of
welding for fabrication and construction activities around the world. This qualification program has
three levels, each designed to provide knowledge, skills and competences necessary for the job
function.
• Comprehensive level develops the abilities to manage, supervise, develop Inspection and Testing
Plans (ITPs) and quality plans, and specify precise controls solutions for complex constructions;
• Standard level develops the abilities to monitor, review quality plans and ITPs for standard products,
witness procedure qualifications, welders’ approvals, management of quality records, perform
visual inspection, able to report the activities;
• Basic Level empowers professionals with the skills to perform basic tasks as defined in the ITPs such
as checking base and filler materials, identification and traceability of weld joints, implementation
of Welding Procedures Specifications - WPSs, welders’ approvals, perform visual inspections, verify
the compliance of quality records, report any action to the control supervisor.

European Welding Coordination

This qualification will allow you to achieve a


higher level of responsibilities as a Welding
Coordinator in metal manufacturing for EXC2
(Execution Class 2).

Due to European Construction Products Regulation (CPR), the fabrication of Metallic Structures is now
under this European Regulation. All manufacturers must implement the so-called Factory Production
Control (FPC) as defined in EN 1090-1. A success key of the FPC implementation is the welding
coordination.
Acknowledging the difficulty for the small metalworking companies to engage their professionals in
long training programs, EWF has developed a specific training course aiming at the qualification of
welding coordinators personnel for the execution class 2 (EXC2) for steels as required to comply with
the FPC implementation.

This training program addresses professionals able to demonstrate experience in welding
coordination for metallic construction according to EXC2.

European Laser Processing Personnel
(Welding, Cutting and Surface Treatments)

Sprayer.
The working environment challenges are fast evolving, and thermal spraying requirements are not an
exception. As a particular process, the control of the coating quality depends on the knowledge and
skills of the sprayers. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the required coating quality level. To ensure the
efficiency and quality of the process, employers should engage not only sprayers with a valid approval
test (ISO 14918 Qualification testing of thermal sprayers) but also sprayers that can demonstrate a
comprehensive level of knowledge and skills, which is only achievable through a suitable qualification.

The EWF training program is divided into spraying techniques/processes, and a combination of
comprehensive technical knowledge and high practical skills, assessed through qualification tests and

European Aluminothermic Welder


EAW
The welding of rail using aluminothermic is used
in rail track constructions. This qualification is
focused on the practical skills and knowledge to
use this welding technique.

Manufacturers of rail tracks constructions will be


able to ensure the rails welding quality by employing
welders that can demonstrate a comprehensive
knowledge and expertise in this welding process.

This guideline provides the theoretical education and practical training of aluminothermic rail welders

The construction or restoration of railway rails
using arc welding is a very specific application
requiring special skills and knowledge of the
welders applying this technique.

Special applications of arc welding such as rail
