Chapter No. 7 Rock Cutting: Notes

This document provides information about rock cutting, including: 1) Converting lift into horizontal lead, where lift is multiplied by factors of 10, squared and multiplied by 3.3, or 20 depending on the lift distance. 2) Measurement of lift is the difference in center of gravity between excavated and placed rock, or between excavated rock and top of spoil bank. 3) A table listing unit rates for various types of rock excavation work by method (e.g. blasting, pick work) and material (e.g. ordinary rock, conglomerate), with higher rates for sub-mountainous areas.

CHAPTER NO.

ROCK CUTTING
Notes :-

(I) Converting lift into horizontal lead :-

For converting lift into horizontal lead the lift up to 3.60 metres will be multiplied by 10 and from 3.60
metres to 6.0 metres, it will be squared and multiplied by 3.3 and beyond 6.0 metres, it will be
multiplied by 20. No cross lead what-so-ever

(ii) Measurement of lift :-

The lift shall be measured from the centre of gravity of the excavated rock to that of placed rock. This
shall constitute the mean lift for that section. When rock has to be carried over a spoil bank and
dumped beyond it, the mean lift would be the difference in levels between the centre of gravity of the
excavated rock and top of the spoil bank omitting the dowel.
