Silent Lesson Plan Reflection
Silent Lesson Plan Reflection
1. What was the biggest challenge you faced while planning the lesson?
The biggest challenge my group faced while planning the lesson was figuring out how
we were going to teach our classmates without speaking English. My group didn’t feel
confident standing infront of a classroom trying to speak in a language besides English.
Once we agreed on teaching our lesson in sign language the greatest challenge was
deciding the easiest thing to teach using a method of communication that a majority of
our class was unfamiliar with.
2. What was the biggest challenge you faced while teaching the lesson?
The greatest challenge we faced while teaching the lesson was filling the holes of our
lesson plan without being able to speak to each other. Although, our lesson plan was
thorough and practiced there is always things that may need quick revision on the spot.
For example: when our video did not play we were not able to communicate very well
what we should do instead which created a moment of panic.
3. What did you rely on the most during your instruction to overcome these
challenges?
With any challenge the thing you rely on most when working in a group is
communication. Since we lacked the ability to communicate smoothly we had to rely on
what we all knew would be common knowledge between us. Since we have all been
taking classes together for the passed two years, when our video didn’t play we
mutually knew by looking at eachother to continue with our lesson and go back to it
later.
4. Was communication with your students easier or more difficult than you
originally thought?
I was very unsure of how the classroom would respond to being taught in sign language.
I do believe that it was much easier to communicate with the classroom though because
the quickly picked up on what we were saying/doing without us having to elaborate
more than our original plan.
6. Do you feel you achieved your objective? How can you be sure you did or didn’t?
I do believe we achieved our objective as it was “The students will be able to repeat
shapes using sign language.” By the end of the lesson we were sure our students knew
shapes in sign language as they were able to use their hands to create the shape we
posted on the smart board.
7. As a student of other group’s lessons, what was the biggest challenge you faced?
For the lessons I was taught in different languages that I am very unfamiliar with I faced
confusion when they said things such as “What color is your shirt?” in a different
language. They were able to overcome the challenge I was facing and teach me by
showing us colors and pointing and their own shirts.
8. As a student, what did you rely on most to comprehend what was being taught?
I most definitely relied on them physically showing us what they were saying. Exactly
like the example in my previous response; when they pointed at a color represented on
the smart board and then grabbed their shirt I was able to understand what they were
trying to teach or ask.
