(a) Within the scope of a project, outline the three main trade offs. (5%)

(b) Describe the seven stages in a project life cycle. (5%)

(c) List and describe three basic company organisational structures. (5%)

(d) List and describe five (5) key skills of a project manager. (5%)

QUESTION 2

(a) The initial part of developing a successful project is the definition of the problem. Outline four
approaches to defining the problem and developing appropriate solutions.
(7%)

(b) Compare and contrast economic and multi-objective approaches to evaluating project
feasibility.
(6%)

(c) Calculate the Net Present Value of building a road over a five-year period. The initial
construction cost is $100,000. The annual maintenance cost is $30,000 pa. The annual
operating savings are $40,000 pa. The present value (PV) of an amount of money spent in a

(a) A building developer wishes to build numerous traffic signs along many roads. The probability
of an event and the cost of withstanding the following wind loads are:
