Organic vs Inorganic Compounds Analysis

This document compares organic and inorganic compounds. Organic compounds contain carbon and have lower melting/boiling points, lower solubility in water, and are more flammable. They produce complex molecules and are involved in living organisms. Inorganic compounds contain metal atoms and are minerals, catalysts with simpler structures. The document then describes experiments testing physical properties, solubility, and acidity of samples like ethanol, sodium chloride, sugar, and acetic acid. It identifies ethanol, toluene, sugar, and acetic acid as organic compounds in the activity. Finally, it discusses the pharmaceutical importance of testing acidity, solubility, and ignition characteristics of compounds.

Organic
Compounds
What is the difference
between Inorganic and
Organic Compounds?
ORGANIC COMPOUNDS
• Carbon atoms
• Low melting and boiling points
• Less soluble in H2O and more
inflammable
• Produce more complex set of
products
• Activities of living organisms
• Unable to make salts
INORGANIC
COMPOUNDS
• Metal atoms
• Mineral
• Catalyst
• Doesn’t have long, complex
chains of molecules

TOLUENE

SUGAR

BENZENE

Acetic acid
Organic compounds and Inorganic compounds are
very different from each other. In this activity, we learned
how to differentiate both compounds from each other.

The main difference is the presence of carbon atoms.

Organic compounds have carbon atoms while Inorganic
compounds do not. Organic compounds are usually
associated with living things while Inorganic compounds
are made in the laboratories.
PHARMACEUTICAL IMPORTANCE
OF:
PH TEST- the different organs in our body needs to maintain a certain level
of pH to function and serve its purpose (e.g. Blood)

SOLUBILITY TEST- the solubility of the drugs is somehow related to the pH

level. The solubility of weak acids increase, then the pH also increases. For
weak bases, if the solubility decreases, then the pH will increase.

IGNITION TEST- the conduction of ignition test secures that all ingredients
are stored in proper ways such as maintaining the required temperature for
different drug products.
