settings, however, can only be configured using the Windows® programming software. This
documentation contains a description of the AS 271 programming software and all of the
associated functions.
English
1.3.2 Interactive mode OTC (One Time Combination)
In this operating mode, it is possible to generate a one-time opening combination for a
Questor lock for a user who has been registered in the management software (Section
“System components” on page 4). This combination allows the lock to be opened one time. It
is valid for an unlimited period of time. As soon as the lock has been opened, the previously
generated one-time combination will no longer be valid.
1.3.4.1 Switching from bank mode to one of the interactive modes (OTC or ICS)
The AS 270 activation software is used to switch from bank mode into one of the two one-
time combination modes. This procedure is referred to as activation.
1.3.4.2 Reverting from OTC or ICS mode back into bank mode
The AS 271 programming software is used to reset an activated Questor lock. The reset
function is only available in the programming software if the software has been linked to an
activated lock (see page EN-14).

activated, modified or deleted.
English
The computer being used must have one free USB port and one free serial interface (9-pin,
D-SUB plug) (also see page EN-12).
English
recognize a USB dongle. If this is the first time the dongle will be connected to a particular
USB port, the operating system will require the installation of a device driver.
The following installation dialog window will appear:
Installation wizard for installation of the USB driver; Windows Update option
Provided the installed operating system is currently up-to-date, access to Windows Update is
not required for the installation of the driver. Proceed with the installation by selecting “No,
not this time” and clicking on “Next >”.
Installation wizard for installation of the USB driver; locating the driver
The operating system should already have the driver for the USB dongle in its standard driver
set; a CD is not required. The software will be installed automatically.
The installation of the USB driver for the copy-protection dongle has been successfully
completed.
i The USB driver has to be installed once for every USB port that a copy-protection
dongle will be connected to.
English
Start screen of the AS 271 programming software
✔ The number (COM1...n) of the serial interface being used must be selected within the window
for establishing a connection in the programming software (page EN-11).
i To establish a connection with the lock, the master code must be entered in the correct ID/
PIN sequence. The ID/PIN sequence can be changed with the programming software.
On the input unit of the lock, press the “INF/ESC” button twice to display the ID/PIN
sequence currently programmed in the lock.
1. The master code that is programmed in the lock is input in the correct order
according to the lock setting (ID/PIN or PIN/ID) in the “Connection” tab of the
programming software in the “Master code” field.
Optionally it is possible to read a pre-programmed master code from the USB
dongle. To read a master code that was programmed in the dongle, just leave the
“Master code” field empty.
2. By clicking on the “Connect” button, a data connection will be established with the
lock.
3. In order to ensure that the interface on the lock is ready for operation, the “ENTER”
button on the input unit must be pressed.
4. In the lower part of the “Connection” window, a bar will appear which indicates the
progress of the data transfer from the lock to the computer.
-> The connection to the lock has been successfully established!
English
‘Status’ tab in the General menu of the programming software
• The display indicates the current status of the lock and the battery. The status of the lock
will be indicated as locked when all three sensors listed (for the motor position, the door
contact and for the bolt position) detect that they are in the “closed” position.
• The programming of remote disabling and the cancellation of the time delay can also be
seen in this tab.
• The “Too many events” indicator provides information about a possible attempt to
manipulate the lock; If an excessive number of events are stored in the memory within a
short period of time, the lock provides notification of this with the “Audit overflow” error
message. Additional information regarding the “Audit overflow” error message can be
found in the operating instructions for the lock.
i The details contained in the ‘Info’ tab are written when the lock is being manufactured and
can not be changed afterwards.
English
‘File’ tab in the General menu of the programming software
• The parameters to be saved are selected by placing checks in the corresponding boxes.
• Save all - Saves a copy of the parameters programmed in the lock onto a data carrier in
the form of a file.
• Import - In order to copy the lock settings to another lock, the desired parameters are
selected from the list on the left hand side, and then they are read from a saved
configuration file (see above) and copied to another lock by pressing the “Import” button.
In doing so, the values currently stored in the lock will be overwritten.
i For security reasons, all the values of a lock are copied with the exception of the
programmed access codes.
Audit entries for a lock can not be copied or overwritten either.
i The details contained in this tab are written when the lock is being repaired and can not be
changed afterwards.
English
‘Time’ tab in the Time menu
• Acquire from PC - acquires the current date and time from Windows.
• Apply - transfers the modified data to the lock.
i The top three time settings are available for all three Questor operating modes,
however, the post-access delay setting is only available for the two interactive modes
(OTC and ICS).
English
‘Codes’ tab in the Codes menu
• Double click on the code to be mutated - the input fields on the right hand side for
changing or deleting the respective code are unblocked.
• Apply - transfers the modified data to the lock.
• Delete - deletes the code that is selected in the list on the left.
• Block code - blocks access to the lock for the entire group of users selected or for an
individual manager.
• Delete all - deletes all programmed codes, except for the master code.
• The two selection boxes, “ID PIN” and “PIN ID”, are used to set the entry sequence for
identification number (ID) and personal code (PIN). This setting always applies to all
codes.
MASTER 00xxxxxx
COURRIER 90xxxxxx
✔ Duress alarms can be triggered at any time, using any type of code. When attempting to open
the lock, the entry of a duress code starts the programmed duress time delay.
Duress codes will only be accepted if this function has been activated through the
master code.
i The default master code (0 0 1 2 3 4 5 6) is identical for all locks of this series, thus it is not
suitable for everyday use.
After initialization and testing, the master code must be changed from the factory
default value and set to a personally selected value.
! During the course of commissioning and assigning the unit, all codes must be personalized.
Never use simple numerical combinations (e.g. 11223344, 12345678) or personal data
(e.g. birthdays). For security reasons, codes should be changed at regular intervals.
Lost codes
! Lost/forgotten codes can only be deleted and newly defined by using a higher-level code.
Please bear in mind, that a lost/forgotten master code can not be recovered or
reissued under any circumstances. There is no so-called “override code” or “super
code”!
English
‘Audit’ tab in the Audit menu
• Save - saves a copy of the audit to a data carrier. The file created by the software ends
with .ad5. The file is in ASCII format, which can be further processed with a simple editor
and transferred via an electronic medium.
• Open - allows a previously saved audit file (ending in .ad5) to be read with the
programming software.
• Print - sends the audit to the default Windows printer.
• Settings - this button allows printer settings to be changed.
One click on this symbol opens the default text editor of the operating system. The text
editor can be used to process the data as needed.
i A change to the language for the programming software will only be applied after the
computer has been restarted.
English
‘Relays’ tab in the Other menu
• The two relay outputs are programmed by selecting the desired boxes from the itemized
list.
• The two selection buttons “Output is in idle position” for relay one and relay two are used
to define whether the relay contact is normally open or closed at the connection terminal.
• Apply - transfers the modified data to the lock.
• Default - resets the values to the default setting.
i The programming of the relay outputs is only valid for operation of the lock in bank mode. For
the two interactive modes, the settings described in ‘4.7.2.2 Relay programming in interactive
mode’ are valid.
In the two interactive modes (OTC or ICS), both of the relay outputs are preset at the factory.
English
The settings are:
• Relay output 1 - duress alarm
• Relay output 2 - lock open
Function Description
By selecting this box, the lock will emit an audible beep every 30
Beep when lock is
seconds while the lock is open in order to draw attention to the
open
fact that it is still open.
If this box is checked, the lock will open in bank mode after the
Master code may open
master code has been entered. If this is undesirable due to a
the lock
separation of powers, then this box should not be checked.

on page 4) from the same customer.
To activate the lock in a customer’s system, a Kaba-programmed USB dongle is required for
the AS 270 software. Additional AS 270 dongles can be ordered if needed.
! If the master code is lost, a connection will not be able to be established again between the
lock and the programming software. Likewise, the lock will not be able to be reset again
without the master code.
If the master code is lost, the lock will have to be replaced!
• The ICS check box is used to select between the two interactive operating modes that are
available. If the box is checked, then the lock will be activated in ICS mode. If the box is
not checked, the AS 270 software will activate the lock in OTC mode (also see Section
“Modes of operation” on page 5).
• In order to establish a connection with the lock, the assigned port for the serial interface
must be selected from the list.
• The language for the software is changed in the Language selection menu.
i The AS 270 activation software uses the factory default master code to connect with the lock.
Make sure that the current master code in the lock is set to the factory default (factory default
master code: 00123456)!
• Activate - writes the activation data to the lock that is connected to the computer. At the
same time the activation data is being written to the lock memory, an activation file is
created for importing the data into the management software at a later time. The default
name of the activation file is “act527_1.dat” and it is saved in the installation directory of
the software.
i In order to establish a connection between the lock and the computer, the interface on the
lock input unit must be activated. This is done by pressing the “ENTER” button on the input
unit. Then the interface will be active for a short period of time.
