Introduction to Political Analysis and Research

(IPAR)

Notes:

Key Points of Being a Good Political Analyst:

- No biases/personal reactions to the issue involved.

- It is best if you’re an outsider to the topic that will be analyzed so you can look at it from
any perspective without biases.

Basis of any Political Analysts:

1.) Check on the law on the matter.

2.) Check the practice.

Word Bank:

 In house - existing, originating, or carried on within a group or organization or its facilities:

not outside.
 In possession VS in position (From Duterte’s previous SONA’s misinterpretation of
pronunciation)
In possession - is something that belongs to you. It is all about control.
In position - if someone or something is in position, they are in their correct or usual place
or arrangement.

Tips:

 I think – advisable to use rather than I feel if you were to recite in our major subject.
 I feel – not advisable to use in the beginning of your sentence especially in our major.
 I believe – other people cannot and will not contradict you because it is your personal belief
(e.g. I believe in God…)
REMINDERS:

 The submission of the group assignment (The analyzation of SONAs from Ramos to
Duterte) will be moved on Monday, August 5, 2019.
 There will be a graded impromptu analysis on Friday, July 26, 2019.

Also, please prepare the following requirements on Wednesday July 31, 2019:

 Registration form
 Copy of your grades (Prelim, Midterm, and Finals)
