ISRO SATCOM Products
ISRO SATCOM Products
NavIC Satellite Constellation have a wide coverage area up to 1500 km around the Indian main
land. They are mainly designed for Regional Navigation Services. In addition to their primary
functionality, they allow broadcasting of additional short messages. These messages can be
related to alerts, forecast and directives on the occurrence of natural disasters like Floods,
Earthquake, Tsunami, Cyclones, Landslides etc. and dangers for the safety of life in areas with
poor or no communication infrastructure.
The NavIC Messaging Receiver is conceptualized and developed for reception and display of
these messages. The receiver transmits raw data over Bluetooth link. An application running on a
smart device like mobile phone or tablet having Bluetooth connectivity can decode and display the
messages for users. This receiver is designed as battery operated low power device.
An Android application on Mobile phone / tablet will communicate with the system through
Bluetooth link to display the broadcasted messages. .
Mobile Satellite Services
An S-band Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) was added to INSAT system with the launch of
INSAT-3C in 2002 and GSAT-2 in 2003. The following two classes of services were identified
for MSS:
1. A small portable satellite terminal that works with INSAT for voice/data communication
has been developed with the participation of Indian industries. The terminal is useful for
voice communication especially during disasters when other means of communication
break down. It can be used from any location in India for emergency communication.
Transmit and receive frequencies of the terminal are in S-Band.
2. The portable terminal is connected to the EPABX at central hub station through satellite
channel and hence could be considered as an extension of EPABX and call could be
made between any satellite terminals and local phones on EPABX. Central hub station is
located at SAC, Ahmedabad.

Distress Alert Transmitter Ver. 1 (DAT I)
Already established product since 2009. Distress Alert Transmitter (DAT) is an INSAT
Based Emergency message Communication Transmitter for all types of sea going
vessels. It has built -in GPS which gives position and time information. The emergency
status (Consisting of Position, Time, ID No. and type of emergency) is relayed through
the INSAT 3A Satellite to the Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) managed by
the Coast Guard which co-ordinates the rescue operation as per the emergency needs of
the boat at sea.
This 2nd generation of DAT is up gradation of existing Distress Alert Transmitter (DAT)
with inbuilt NavIC Receiver module for user position determination and broadcast
messages reception.
