Technical Bulletin 
FX5U GXW3 Block Password Security Function 
To prevent illegal access to a Program (in a POU Unit) a Password can be set using the Block Password 
Function.  The Password will restrict access to the Selected POU.     

Program Blocks, Function Blocks and Functions can be Password protected.

Step 1: Create a New Security Key  
Use Project  Security  Block Password Setting… Menu 

Select a Data Name (Or Group of Data Names) from the POU list and select “Register...”

Enter a Password and Select “OK”. 

It will show the Data Name you selected now as “Authenticated”. 

Select “OK” then Save and Close the Project.

When the Project is reopened the POU that was “Authenticated”, will now be in a “Registered“ 
State and now will not have user access.

Step 2: Authenticating a Block Password 
Unlock the POU Temporarily by authenticating the password which has been previously set. 

Use Project  Security  Block Password Setting… Menu 

Select the Data Name then “Authentication” Button.                                                

Enter the Password, then “OK”.

The POU in the Data Name list will now go back to the “Authenticated” State and the POU can 
now be opened and edited as needed. 

When the project is saved, closed then reopened, the POU will be back in the “Registered” state.

Step 3: Change or Delete Block Password 
Select the POU form the Data Name List.   Either select the “Change…” button to change the 
password or “Delete…” to delete the password. 

Change will ask for the current password and the new password entered twice.  Select “OK” 
when finished.

When the project is saved, closed then reopened, the POU will be back in the “Registered” state. 

Delete will ask for the Current Password then select “OK”. 

The POU in the Data Name List will not have NO Registration Status.
