AN EVALUATION ESSAY ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE PHILIPPINES

What is the effect of sexual harassment to the students and working people.

Sexual harassment is a form of unwelcome sexual behavior that is offensive to the victim,
humiliating and intimidating. It can be done verbally, physically or written in personal or
in social media. Both men in women can be the victim of sexual harassment it happens
in work or school. Sexual harassment includes touching you without your consent,
spreading personal information about you that have sexual meaning, making fun of you
about sex, asking you to have sex with him/her or spreading rumors about your body.
Many people joke around about sex but they do not see the feeling of those people who
hear it, they might be offended or being hurt.

Sexual harassment leads to sexual assault when you feel fear, humiliated or pain when
you are being with that person when he/she is talking to you in malicious way or doing
something without knowing he/she wants to have sex with you. Woman are the most
victim of sexual assault because they lack of power than men, more vulnerable, lack of
confidence and tend not to speak and be silence not to worsen the situation.

In work, people get fired, leave or complain because they are being sexually harassed
by the people who has a higher position than them. Like for example, if the boss wants
to have sex with her/him but he/she will refuse they will be forced to make out with their
boss or worst is that they will be raped. Sometimes in workplace their co-worker will be
the one who will harass them like touching them in the legs, stalking and taking picture
that includes the body of that person and use it to blackmail them so that they will allow
to have a sexual intercourse to the victim.

Many students are scared to enter school because they are being harassed by the
school employee or students that they are going to do something that is not inhumane,
example is that when their teacher told them that they will fail them or pass them in
exchange of their body that is sexual harassment because they are forcing you to
exchange your body for their lustful needs and for you to be passed on his/her subject.

People feel harassed because the words that coming from the mouth of others makes
them uncomfortable or scared. Like complimenting them or telling them that their legs
was skinny, they are beautiful with their dress or writing a letter that ask them to have a
sex. That act can lead people to rape them because they can’t stop the lust that they
feel.

Sexually harassed people suffer debilitating stress reaction, including anxiety,


depression, headaches, sleep disorders, weight loss or gain, nausea, lowered self-
esteem and sexual dysfunction, can also lead them to embarrassment, having enough
sleep, having trouble studying or paying attention, having trouble paying attention
and staying focused on work that can lead them to leave their work, thinking to drop
off or leave school, and lastly can lead them to suicide.

The Republic Act (RA) 7877 also known as Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995 It
addresses the issue of sexual harassment committed in work and education or training
environment. This is committed when a person demands, requests, or requires sexual
favors from another person in exchange for another thing such as hiring for
employment, re-employment, or continued employment, granting favorable
compensation, terms of conditions, promotions, or privileges.
