Lesson idea implementation: The lesson will be introduced by reviewing the current standard the class is
learning about. The teacher will introduce the project be reviewing the important events of economic
concepts in the United States. The teacher may choose to use this lesson at the end of a unit. The teacher
may begin a discussion by asking, “What types of technology do we use in our classroom?” or “What types of
technology do your parents use at their job?” This will open the lesson. The teacher will discuss the
advancements of technology in her own lifetime. The teacher will instruct the students that they will be
creating a timeline of technological advancements in the United States during different time periods. The
teacher will demonstrate the features of the TIMELINE interactive by sequencing a well-known historical
event.
Students will pick an event that impacted the business productivity during the development of the United
States (e.g., cotton gin, steamboat, steam locomotive, and telegraph). Students will create a timeline based
on the events. Students may use Ben’s Guide or other approved websites and class materials to obtain their
information for the Timeline. Students will share their timelines with the class by presenting them on the
whiteboard. Students will be given guidelines of some things to include in their timeline: Date, Name of
Event, Explanation of how it affected business development, thoughts on how this event could effect the
present if it did not occur. Students will also be required to list at least six facts about the event. will be

assessed using the guidelines. Learning will be differentiated by allowing one partner if needed as well as
limiting the number of timeline bubbles required
Reflective Practice: The given activities require students to list events in order while also building connections
of cause and effect. To further extend this lesson, the students could print their timelines and have the
teacher laminate and bind them all together. Once the book is bound, the teacher could place it on display in
the library for the school to see.
