Lesson Plan in Mathematics 1: Subject and Grade: Mathematics 1 Quarter: 4 Week: 3 Week

This lesson plan outlines a mathematics lesson for grade 1 students to learn about fractions, specifically recognizing and writing 1/2 of a whole. The objective is for students to be able to recognize and write fractions as 1/2 of a whole. The lesson will begin with a review activity and motivation video about sharing. Students will then learn about dividing objects, like a pizza, into two equal parts and writing this as 1/2. They will practice by dividing shapes into two equal parts. Finally, students will complete an assignment dividing and shading 1/2 of different shapes. The overall goal is for students to understand the concept of one part out of two total equal parts being called 1/2.

LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 1

Subject and Grade: Mathematics 1 Quarter: 4 Week : 3 week

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the period, the learners are expected to:

Cognitive: Recognize ½ of a whole.

Psychomotor: Write fractions as ½ of a whole.

Affective: Explain the importance of sharing one’s blessing

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Recognize ½ of the whole

Reference: MATH FOR LIFE 1 pp.206 – pp.211

Materials: PowerPoint, pictures, real objects, video

Value Focus: Sharing and Cooperation

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activities

1. Review

Counting Equal Groups

2. Motivation

- Show this picture to draw their attention to the value of sharing.

- watch the video.

1. Who among you who shares his/her“ baon “ to others?

2. Who among you gives paper to your classmates?

3. What do you feel when sharing what you have to others?

B. Development Activities

1. Presentation

The teacher will give a picture of one whole pizza in a pair of pupils.

- How will you divide equally the pizza into two?

- How many equal parts are there?

Explain that each part is 1 of 2 equal parts or one half of the pizza. Then
write ½. Write it on the board and let the children read it.

Point to each of the fractions as you explain. The symbol “ – “ tells us that
the whole shape was divided into equal parts. The “ 2 “ below the line tells
us that there are 2 equal part. The “ 1 “ above the line tells us that we are
talking about 1 of the 2 equal parts.

1 of the 2 equal parts

2 equal parts
2. Activities

a. Activity A

Give each learner a cut out shapes. Let them divide the shapes into
2 equal parts by folding. Write ½ on each part

C. Application

Cut out the shapes and sort if the shapes divide into ½ or not.

11/2 1/2
2

D. Generalization

What do you call one part of a whole is divided into 2 equal parts?

If a whole divided into 2 equal parts, one part is called ( ½ )

V. EVALUATION

NAME: `
VI. ASSIGNMENT
Draw the following figures. Divide them into 2 equal parts. Shade ½ of each.

1. Circle

2. Triangle

3. Rectangle
