Tedds Calculation Version 1.0.04: I I I 1 I I 2

This document summarizes the design of a steel base plate to support a column with an 89x89x5 SHS cross-section. It defines the geometry and material properties of the base plate and concrete foundation. It then calculates the effective area of concrete support, required strength of the base plate, and design strengths of both the concrete foundation and steel base plate to support an axial load of 70kN on the column. It determines that the design capacity of the steel base plate of 157kN is sufficient to support the load.

Grade of steel base plate; Not taken from AS4100-1998 Table 2.1
Yield stress of base plate; fyi = 450 MPa
Effective area of concrete support; A2 = 4  (yce  xce)= 90000 mm2
Strength reduction factor;  = 0.6
Design axial compression force; Nc = 70 kN
AH = max(Nc / (  0.9  f'c   (A2 / ( b  d))), Nc / (  1.8
