Maintenance
Hand tool – tool used in
performing work on a material or
physical system using only hands
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) –
sudden flow of electricity
between two objects caused by
contact
Static electricity – build-up of
electricity between two objects
caused by contact
Carpal tunnel syndrome – pain,
tingling and other problems in
your hand because of pressure on
the median nerve in your wrist
Tendonitis – overuse injury of the
rope-like structure that connects
our muscles to our bones (tendon)
Muscle strain – an injury to
muscle or tendon in which the
muscle fiber tears as a result of
overstretching
Corrosive agent – substance that eat
away (corrode) whatever it touches.
Electrical surge – a form of electrical
power disturbance characterized by
rapid increase in voltage
Spike – fast, short duration electrical
transients in voltage, current, or
transferred energy in an electrical
circuit.
Computer Preventive
Maintenance -regular and
systematic inspection,
cleaning and replacement
of worn-out parts, materials
and systems
Computer Hardware-consists
of all the physical elements that
you can actually touch
1. Input Devices-used to enter
data into the computer system
2. Output Devices-used by the
computer to show its output
to the user.
INPUT DEVICES

Examples:
mouse
keyboard
microphone
OUTPUT DEVICES

Examples:
monitor
speaker
printer
3. Processing Devices-
acts as the computer’s
nervous system.
They are used to process the
input data coming from the
user, process such as data and
show the output to the user.
4. Primary Storage Device-
act as the temporary storage of
computer data.
The processing devices work
only on data that are stored on
these devices. Though they
differ in form, such devices are
often referred to as memory of
RAM
5. Secondary Storage
Devices-keep its data
even when power is
turned off in contrast to
the primary storage
device whose data is lost
once the power is off.
Computer Maintenance Procedure
may be classified into:

a.Mechanical
Maintenance
-Computers should be
cleaned once every 4-6
months.
b. Electrical Maintenance

-It is advisable to use surge


protectors on computers. When a
surge protector is connected to a
computer, it regulates the current
by either blocking or shorting to
ground any unsafe voltage.
c. Software or Hard disk
Maintenance
Installing anti-virus software
Defragmenting your computer
cleans out fragmented files and
folder on a hard drive
Removing cleaning up of hard
disk drive by removing files that
are not moved.
