Teaching content and learning focus: Focus on the development of bowling skills through discussion of
appropriate technique, peer teaching and peer feedback through use of filming bowling of each other.

Student knowledge/skills assumed: In the previous lesson, students did throwing, catching and fielding,
therefore should be reasonably competent in these areas. It is likely that students have some idea as to the correct
technique to bowl a ball, however most will have probably not done it themselves before.

Lesson aims/objectives:
 To bowl a ball at wickets with correct technique
 To be able to identify correct or incorrect technique in others

Personal teaching goals/behaviours: Equipment needed & facility preparation:

 Be clear and concise with instructions  Cricket balls
 Maintain flow of the lesson  Markers
 Give plenty of feedback throughout  Wickets
 Be enthusiastic and energetic throughout  iPads (1 between 3)
 Maintain control of the lesson through low
Key behaviour management when required
Eg. Proximity, names, waiting

Lesson Differentiation: Catering for varied ability/interest/readiness levels.

- Students will be able to decrease or increase the distance that they are
Skill bowling from according to their skill level
- Students are likely to pair themselves with someone of reasonably similar
skill to themselves
- Injured or sick students will still be encouraged to participate if possible,
Injured/Sick need a note if not participating
o These students could help to set up markers, umpire, score the
game
Game o Can assist with equipment and setting up markers
o Can provide feedback to other students

Wet weather plan: Lesson can take place in the gym

TIME CONTENT/ACTIVITIES ORGANISATION
2:30-  Do the roll
2:40  Learning intention: to know the key points
10mins of bowling and be able to bowl with
appropriate technique

2:40- Warm up
2:50  Rob the nest – cricket balls
10mins  Divide the class into 4 even teams to play
rob the nest
 Give each team a hoop to put in their
corner of the gym
 On the whistle, one person from each team
can run and pick up a ball from the middle
and bring it back to their hoops
 Before the ball can be placed in the hoop,
the individual must throw it into the air,
shoulders, hips, clap, catch the ball
 Once all of the balls are gone from the
middle of the gym, you can go and steal
balls from other teams’ hoops
 Rules:
o Only one person can be out at a
time – must tag the next person
o No guarding your team’s balls
o No interfering with other peoples
throws

Video Analysis
3:05
15min  In a group of 3 with an iPad, one set of
wickets and a ball per group
 Set up with a set of wickets, a marker
about 15m away and a small square of
markers for the bowler to aim at
 One student bowls the ball at the stumps,
one is the wicket keeper to throw the ball
back and on films the bowl
 The person with the iPad provides
feedback to the bowler
 Using the app, students can watch their
bowling action back and identify where
they are going wrong
 KTPs of bowling:
o Stand side on
o Straight windmill arm
o Rock and bowl
o Arm brushes the ear
3:05- Bowling team race
3:10  In your team of 3, have one-person wicket
5mins keeping, one-person bowling and one
waiting to bowl next
 First person bowls at the stumps
o If they hit it, then they remove a
single stump and place it behind
o If they miss then the ball goes to
the next bowler to have a go
o After each successful hit, remove a
stump
o Once all the stumps are gone they
must hit the base
o Once the base gets hit they can add
a stump back to the wicket
 The first team to successfully remove and
rebuild their wickets win

3:10- Fielding game

3:25  Same game as last week but instead, a
15mins bowler must bowl the ball to the batter,
batter must catch or pick up the ball, then
throw the ball out onto the field
 Divide students into 2 even groups
 The bowler bowls the ball between the
markers to the batter
o If the ball doesn’t go between the X X
X
markers then it’s a no-ball
o 3 no-balls and the batter gets a free
run to the other end X
 The batter catches the ball and then throws
X
the ball as far and in whatever (forwards) X
direction they wish (if the batter doesn’t
catch it then that’s ok)
 The batter then has to run to the far end of X
X X
the field and back without being tagged by
the ball
X
o Batter can stay safe at the far end if
they wish, but have to attempt a
Batter
return before their last batter
completes their turn
 Fielding team has to try to get the batters
out by tagging them with the ball before
they get to the far ends
o Ball must be thrown to hit the
batter below the shoulders
o If the ball hits someone over the
shoulders then they get a free run
to the other end
 Ways to get out:
o Getting tagged by the ball
o Getting caught out
 Everyone on each side gets a turn and then
side away
