Week 3

This document provides guidance for weekly journal entries for a filmmaking project. It advises students to reflect on what they have learned and how it has benefited their project, and what they need to improve. Students should address these questions in the weeks they completed relevant tasks. The sample weekly journal entry discusses research conducted on bullying for developing characters, how the target audience of 15-18 year olds informed character and music choices, and additional research needed on directing style.

WEEKLY JOURNALS

This is where you think about your FMP learning journey and development.
Don’t simply describe what you did - consider what you have learnt and how this has benefitted
your project. What do you need to improve?

THIS IS JUST GUIDANCE THAT YOU NEED TO ADAPT TO YOUR OWN PROJECT. YOU HAVE CREATED YOUR
OWN PRODUCTION SCHEDULES AND YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS SHOULD REFELCT THAT.

THESE QUESTIONS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IN THE WEEKS YOU COMPLETED THEM. DO NOT JUST SUBMIT THIS
FORM FILLED IN FOR YOUR WEEKLY BLOGS. THERE SHOULD BE 11 WEEKLY BLOG ENTRIES (INCLUDING
EASTER).

Week Three - Research

RESEARCH

What did you learn from your I learnt why people bully, what the psychological consequences
research? of bullying are and why victims sometimes don’t get help from
bullies. I will use this sort of research for my characters, The victim:
why he may get bullied, why he doesn’t tell anyone or get any
help and how he deals with. The bully: Why he bullies the victim
etc.

How has the research into your target My target audience is 15 – 18, in my idea I have tailored different
audience helped you improve your aspects things such as characters and music types. The majority
ideas? of characters will be teenagers at the age around 16 – 18 so that
the audience could relate to them better, the characters will talk
like most teenagers (slang) and listen to the sort of music teens
listen to as well since if the characters were 30 or above they
wouldn’t really suit the target audience that I have chosen since
they wouldn’t really use slang or listen to the same type of music
nor act the same way as other teens would recognise.

How has the research into your

platform helped you improve your
ideas?

How has researching characters and

actors helped you decide who to
cast?

What have you learned from your

test shoots? How will you use these
ideas in your production?

What work do you need to complete I need to complete research into different directors and how I will
outside of lessons to stay on track? try to imitate their directing/editing style.
High Grade Tips

Research
● ‘Thorough research’ - include plenty of sources and detailed analysis of this information
● ‘relevant & coherent’ – make sure your research sources are not just the same as the Media
product you hope to make - and talk about how they inform your planning
● ‘sustained’ – continue your research throughout the eleven-week project and don’t just limit it to
the first two weeks
● ‘accomplished & considered’ – all of the above referred to in your daily/weekly reflections
