LASER SECURITY ALARM SYSTEM

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this project is to make a laser light security alarm system. Apart from it’s
various applications, it can also be used as a home security system. The essence of this
project is that anyone can make it at home to save their home from thefts and robberies.

ABSTRACT

Laser based Security System is a type of security and alarm system that uses laser light and
a light sensor in the form of an LDR. A security system protects our homes, offices, banks,
lockers etc. from intrusion and unauthorized access. There are different types of security
systems available and laser based security system is one of the most important and efficient
types.

A Laser security system can act as a standalone system, which makes some sound when it
detects any irregular activity, or can be part of a much bigger security and home
automation system, which can send message/call the owner etc.

In this project, we have designed a simple DIY laser based security system, which acts as a
tripwire like security system and triggers an alarm when the laser in interrupted.

INTRODUCTION

This minor project is DIY laser based security system.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENT/DESCRIPTION

LDR, LED, BC547 Transistor, 100k ohm Resistor, 9v Battery, Buzzer and Breadboard.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM

WORKING

The circuit has an LDR attached to an NPN transistor in such a way that the value of
resistance of the LDR manipulates the voltage at the base of the transition. The relation is
such that when the resistance is high, a relatively higher positive potential is developed at
the base of the NPN transistor and the transistor turns ON.
Hence, when light is obstructed, the resistance of LDR increases and the transistor turns
on. As a result of which, the led lights and the buzzer buzzes. But as long as the light is
falling, the resistance is low and hence the potential at the base is not enough to turn on the
transistor and, as a result, the LED and the buzzer is off.

CONCLUSIONS

1) Home security is rapidly growing field and there are new & improved burglar
alarms popping up every day.
2) With rapid advancement of technology the field is turning out to be an area full of
scope and new changes can be made to make it’s more efficient.
3) It has years to come, because security is of prime importance to one and all.

APPENDIX

LDR

3
A photo-resistor (or light-dependent resistor, LDR, or photo-conductive cell) is a
light-controlled variable resistor. The resistance of a photo-resistor decreases with
increasing incident light intensity; in other words, it exhibits photoconductivity

LED

LEDs are Light Emitting Diodes. They are super compact and do not emit heat ; most
commonly used in emergency lightings, automotive tail lights.

BC547 TRANSISTOR

BC547 is an NPN bi-polar junction transistor. A transistor, stands for transfer of

resistance, is commonly used to amplify current. A small current at its base controls a
larger current at collector & emitter terminals.

100k OHM RESISTOR

4
A resistor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that implements electrical
resistance as a circuit element. In electronic circuits, resistors are used to reduce current
flow, adjust signal levels, to divide voltages, bias active elements, and terminate
transmission lines, among other uses.

9V BATTERY

A battery is a device consisting of one or more electrochemical cells with external

connections provided to power electrical devices such as flashlights, smartphones, and
electric cars. When a battery is supplying electric power, its positive terminal is the
cathode and its negative terminal is the anode.

BUZZER

A buzzer or beeper is an audio signaling device, which may be mechanical,

electromechanical, or piezoelectric (piezo for short). Typical uses of buzzers and beepers
include alarm devices, timers, and confirmation of user input such as a mouse click or
keystroke
