Week 9 Blog

This weekly journal entry from the student discusses their experience with the editing process for their film production. They found editing stressful due to delays in filming but enjoyed learning new skills in Premiere Pro and After Effects. During editing, they developed skills in color grading and adding visual effects to create a vintage VHS style. They overcame issues with archival footage being removed from their USB drive by re-downloading and relinking the footage, which caused a slight delay. Overall, they felt on track with the project and no scenes needed to be re-shot.

Week Nine–Editing

EDITING

How did you find the editing process? I found the editing process pretty stressful, this is because I had encountered
problems therefore it delayed my filming process which meant I had less time to
complete a final draft. However overall I do enjoy the editing process so learning
new things and also developing skills I already have using premier pro or after
effects was good

What skills did you have to Whilst my production doesn’t have much fancy editing etc I have learnt how to
colour grade, the first daft I made was black and white which I felt didn’t help
learn/develop during the editing represent the song and help connect the audience to the message I’m trying to
process? create with the song as it is upbeat so I decided to create a vhs style effect using
an adjustment layer and adding noise, Gaussian blur, faded film and playing
around with the basic corrections and colours till I was happy with the way it
looked.

Upload screenshots of the editing this shows how I added a crop effect to create a vhs camera style so it was
square. I added this to an adjustment layer which helped a lot as it allowed me
process and explain what they show. to create an effect which I could put over the entire production.

I also used colour grading techniques in order to make a vhs style

effect as I wanted my production to be more colourful whilst also
being more fun. To create this I had to play around with basic
correction which meant the exposure, contrast, highlight and
shadow levels

What issues did you have to I didn’t have many problems with editing other than some footage
overcome whilst editing? How did you was removing itself of my usb like the archive footage I was using
move past them? which meant that I had to go back and download footage back onto
my usb and relink it all, which delayed the process slightly
Have you identified any scenes which None of my scenes will need reshooting
need re-shooting? Will you be able to
do this?

Are you on track this week? If not, yes

how far behind are you?

What work do you need to complete n/a

outside of lessons to stay on track?

High Grade Tips

Evaluation & Reflection

● ‘reasoned decisions and inform the development of ideas’ – both your evaluation and the
weekly reflections above will clearly show both how and why your ideas developed throughout
the project
● ‘demonstrating clarity in thinking’ – all of the above plus very clear links between your research,
planning, idea development and the production of your poster and film trailer
