Class Led Discussion Reflection

I thought that the class led discussion experience was really fun and taught me a lot of

new things. It was also pretty interesting to be on the other side of the classroom. Everyone in

our group was very respectful and determined, which was the best thing you could hope for. The

biggest struggle that our group had was probably attempting to make the awkward silences less

awkward and figuring out what to say when you don’t receive any feedback. We did not fail at

this, but it was definitely the hardest and most awkward part to get over. I would say that the

thing we did best was our communication through the entire project. We all met at the times we

said we would, and we all supported each other’s ideas. When leading the discussion, we also

communicated our ideas well to the class and even one another’s. If I were to lead a discussion

again, I would probably incorporate more interactive activities to encourage participation. For

example, going over to groups and asking for their input while maybe giving them some of my

ideas to widen their thinking horizons. Communication skills are very important to have in life.

Every single job will require you to use some form of the skill. This project was definitely

helpful in developing a more comfortable self when speaking in front of a group of people. In

many courses, we also have to communicate. We have to write papers or give presentations or

take short answer tests; communication is very important in these specific areas. We

communicate with people every single day. The reason we have such amazing relationships with
our friends and family is because of communication. I feel that my future experiences of

speaking in front of people will definitely be better than before.
