Exercise 8 Flow Improvement

A 12" flowline transports crude oil and water from 5 wells over 25 km to a processing plant. Initial production is 6000 bopd and 300 bwpd, predicted to increase over 9 years until reaching 4000 bopd and 7000 bwpd by year 9. One well produces disproportionately more water, 30-50% of the total. Two additional wells may come online in years 4-5, adding 2000-4000 bopd initially with low water.

Exercise 8

Flow Improvement
A multiphase 12” flowline has recently been brought on stream and carries crude oil from 5
wells through a manifold to the main processing plant which is over 25 km distant. The 12”
flowline is designed to handle up to 10000 bpd liquids.

The initial production is 6000 bopd, 300 bwpd.

End Y1 prediction is 8900 bopd, 600 bwpd
End Y3 prediction is 9100 bopd, 1200 bwpd
End Y5 prediction is 8500 bopd, 2000 bwpd
End Y7 prediction is 7000 bopd, 4000 bwpd
End Y9 prediction is 4000 bopd, 7000 bwpd

One of the wells regularly produces 30 - 50% of the total water.

Question: How could you ensure there are no capacity issues during the first 5 years?

Additional Questions

Q1: Why do we add drag reducer downstream of a pump/valve rather than upstream?

The operator will have the option to bring two additional wells on stream in the same area in Y4-
Y5. The additional wells are predicted to run at a total of 2000 - 4000 bopd oil and minimum
water for about 2 years and then with increasing water cut thereafter

Q2: What other options should the operator explore to ensure optimum production of oil?
