TT - Revit Structure - Creating Grids and Levels

1. Create 3 new levels with 3m gap between each other and a plinth level at 450mm below Level 1. Rename the levels. 2. Draw the first vertical grid line and use the pick line option to create other grids at 5000mm offset in the Level 1 plan view. Save the project.

Starting a new project

Application Menu
New
Project
Starting a new project

In the new project dialog box


Select the required Template you
like to use and click OK.

Structural Analysis DefaultMetric


Save a new project

To save an existing project


with new name:

Application menu
Save As
Click Project

Save the project by your


desired name at any location
of your system.
Setting up Levels
Add and modify Level

Levels define stories and other vertical height.


The default template includes 2 levels but you can define as many as required.
Levels can be added above or below the default levels.

To create level you must be in an elevation or section view

Once you lock your object with level, Object moves with level if any changes in
level height is there in your project in future.
Create Levels

Open an Elevation View (South) from Project Browser


Create Levels

Structure Tab
Datum Panel
Click on Level (Or type LL) Type selector

From the type selector select


style of Level to be created
Create Levels
Modify /Place Level Tab
Draw Panel
Click on Line or Pick Line

Select Line to Draw level


Level> Select Line > Check Make Plan View
Bring courser near click1 track for distance and click
Drag mouse till click 2 and once you see a tracking Line Click
Create Levels
Pick line- to select an element
Level> Select Pick Line > Check Make Plan View
In the option bar give offset distance
Bring your mouse cursor near the level above or below to draw the level
• Create 3 New Levels with
3m gap between each other.
• Make a Plinth Level at
450mm below Level1

Change the Level names


• Go near to level where bubble is on double
click on it , it will be selected
• then name as per specification

 After Rename Level press Enter


 In this dialogue box Click Yes
If any overlapping is there
Go near to level line
An elbow is visible
Click on it
And adjust the Bubble as needed
Create Levels

We can create levels by copy and also by array command . But this will
not create plane view for respective level

To create plan view


Go to View Tab
In Create Panel > Click Plan Views > Click on Floor Plan

A dialog box will appear for Levels whose plans are not there
Select all as per needed > Create View (Structural View)
Create Structural Grids
Add and Modify Structural Grid Lines

Structural model projects require Structural Grids to place column & beams.
Grids can be placed in the model one by one (Horizontally & Vertically).
Grid can be placed in the project at any time from Structure Tab.

Grid Lines are placed in any plan view, it will propagate to other plan views
itself.
Create Structural Grids
Structure Tab > Datum Panel > Click Grid

In the Modify/place Grid Tab > Draw Panel


Select the desired method of creating grid lines.

We can select from


Line
Arc (start-end-radius)
Arc (center-end-Arc)
Pick Line.

We can also create any irregular shape of Grid Line By Multi-Segment option

In option bar set Offset distance if needed


To finish the command press escape twice or right click and cancel twice.
Create Structural Grids by Draw
Structure Tab > Datum Panel > Grid
From Draw Panel > Select Line
Click at end1 for start, Click at end 2 for end .

Change name of grid head by double click on grid head


Create Structural Grids by Draw
For other horizontal grid positioning
Select Grid Command > From Draw Panel > Pick Line
By tracking first grid end points and adjusting dimension
Click for end1 & drag to other corner track first grid line then click on end2.

Or

After creating first horizontal grid bring mouse cursor near first grid end1
point, look for the tracking, enter distance value by keyboard and press enter.
Now drag to the other corner and click with reference to tracking at end2
point.

• Draw first Grid Line using Line option


• Select Pick Line option from Draw Panel
• Provide offset distance in option bar
• Select the previous Grid Line
• Show the direction on the side of existing grid we like to have new grid
• Grid Line appears in dotted line
• Click

Grid Lines Drawing using Multi-Segment Grid option

In Multi-Segment Grid draw option Revit allows


us to sketch any profile for grid lines as far as it
is a single loop and not closed.

Structure Tab > Datum Panel >


Multi-Segment Grid
It will take you to sketch mode
In Modify/Edit Sketch Tab >
Draw Panel > Use the tools to
create sketch of the grid .

Task1: Create and Modify Levels
In application menu click new
In the new project dialog box , verify that structural template
is selected< ok
In the project browser , in elevation (building elevation
)select south view, double click on it to open it
There are two existing level available name level 1 at 0 &
level2 @3000mm
Zoom in on the level name
Double click on level 1 next to level head symbol and rename
it as 00.Natural ground lvl
Click yes when prompted to rename corresponding views
Select level ,pick line< in option set offset 450
Select level 1 (Natural Ground Level)

Create offset above 00.natural ground Level
A new level at 450 height will be created
Rename it as 01.plinth
Select Level 2, it will show you level difference between
01.plinth and level2 change this distance to 3000mm
Rename level 2 as 02.first lvl
Esc
Again take level < pick line < set offset < create new levels, as
many as required in the project
Then rename
Task1: Create and Modify Grids
Open structural plan:- 01.plinth
In the structural tab < datum panel < click on grid
In type selector .select grid style
In the modify /place tab < draw panel < click on line
Draw the first vertical grid line
In the draw panel click on pick line
In option bar set offset 5000
Move the cursor over the first grid line and verify that the
offset alignment line displays to the right side
Continue to use the offset option
Draw the horizontal grid in similar manner
Zoom Extent (Z -> E)
And save the project
