Scope and Special Technical Requirements: Clause No
Approach bridge/ walkway shall connect the two banks of river Shakkar. The deck
of approach bridge/ walkway has been sized for two (2) make-up water pipes, walk
way for small vehicles etc.,. Tender drawing indicates minimum size of the
approach bridge/ walkway. The deck shall be of structural steel. Hand rail for the
structure shall be provided. The deck shall be supported on longitudinal beams
and cross beams. Bottom of girder including deck shall be above the HFL with
adequate clearance as per relevant IRC codes. The top level of the deck shall be
equal to the top level of operating floor of the raw water pump house. The entire
deck shall be supported on piers. The piers shall be supported on piles and pile
cap.
The deck slab shall be designed for the live loads, pipe loads and the load of
heaviest equipment to be moved over the approach. Apart from the specified
loads, any other equipment or possible overloading during construction/ erection/
installation of pipe line/ equipment and maintenance shall also be considered in
the design.
The critical deflection shall be limited such that it shall not produce difficulties in
serviceability conditions nor shall it cause damage to the structures and pipelines
supported on the bridge, and its components etc. The horizontal deflection shall be
checked for wind/ earthquake and current loading and the maximum value shall be
limited to L/350, where ‘L’ is the average distance between bridge support points.

SCOPE AND SPECIAL TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
150% of the total predicted translation shall be allowed for the end connection and
bridge design. The hinged connection shall be designed to withstand 150% of the
expected axial thrust.
Stone crates of size 2mx1mx1m shall also be provided in the river bed all round
the pile cap to minimize scouring at the pier location.
Barricade shall be provided at the bridge entrance to restrict vehicular entry into
the approach bridge.
The details of Approach walkway/Bridge over river Shakkar for MuW-Pipes along
with their technical requirements and loadings to be considered for design and
preparing drawings are covered herein.
Following levels/ data shall be considered in the design of bridge over
Shakkar river:
Length of approach bridge – 350 M
High Flood Level (HFL) -- RL 343.00 M
2.02.0 Loading
Bridge shall be designed for the most critical combinations of dead loads, imposed
loads, equipment loads, crane loads, piping loads (static, friction and dynamic),
earth pressure & surcharge loads, hydrostatic & hydrodynamic loads, wind loads,
seismic loads and temperature loads. In addition, erection loads, loads and forces
developed due to differential settlement shall also be considered.
Dead loads shall include the weight of structure complete with finishes, fixtures
and partitions and shall be taken as per IS: 875 (Part - 1).
Imposed loads in different areas shall include live, erection, operation and
maintenance loads. Equipment loads (which constitute all loads of equipment to be
supported on the building frame) are not included in the imposed loads furnished
below and shall be considered in addition to imposed loads.
For consideration of imposed loads on bridge structure relevant IRC codes shall be
followed. The following minimum imposed loads shall be considered for the design.
If actual expected load is more than the specified minimum load, then actual load
is to be considered.
For design of bridge, the Wind, Impact, Longitudinal forces shall be taken as per
IRC: 6. In case of more than one exposed pipe, wind load shall be considered on
all the pipes with shielding factor.
The average maximum annual variation in temperature for this purpose shall be
taken as the difference between the mean of the daily minimum ambient
temperature during the coldest month of the year and mean of daily maximum
ambient temperature during the hottest month of the year. The structure shall be
designed to withstand stresses due to 50% of the total temperature variation.
The increase in permissible stress of materials and soil bearing pressure for
different load combinations under wind, seismic and temperature loads shall be as
per relevant IRC Codes.
The design of steel structure shall be done by working stress method. Design and
fabrication shall be as per provisions of IS: 800 and other relevant IS standards.
Flanges and web of crane girder and monorail hoist beams should not have any
joints between the supports.
Welding shall be used for fabrication. High Strength Friction Grip (HSFG) bolts
shall be used for joints. In few cases, for shear connections or removable beam
connections, bolted joints with M.S. black bolts may be adopted with due approval
from Engineer-in-Charge. IS: 4000 shall be followed for HSFG bolt connection. IS:
816 and IS: 9595 shall be followed for welding of structures.
Dispersion of load in any direction through soil shall be as per IS: 8009
(relevant part). Dispersion of load through concrete shall be considered at an angle
of 45Deg with horizontal from the edge of contact area.
The design and construction of RCC structures shall be carried out as per IS: 456.
Working stress method shall be adopted for the design wherever specifically
mentioned in this specification.
Design and construction of piling shall be as per relevant Indian/IRC standards.
For design and construction of steel - concrete composite members, IS: 11384
shall be followed.
For detailing of Reinforcement, IS: 5525, IS: 13920, IS: 4326 and SP: 34 shall be
followed.
The minimum concrete clear cover to Reinforcement bars in all RCC structures
shall meet durability requirements of moderate exposure conditions as per IS:456.
