Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) ASME CODE: BPVC Section IX, Edition 2015/ B31.3, Edition 2014 & ABS 2016 PART 2

This welding procedure specification is for gas tungsten arc welding 316L stainless steel pipe and fittings in all positions using the gas tungsten arc welding process with ER316L filler metal. The base metal thickness ranges from 1.5 to 10 mm for groove welds and all thicknesses for fillet welds. An argon shielding gas is used at a flow rate of 14-25 L/min. Multiple pass weave or stringer beads are used with a 1/2 inch nozzle and electrode. Preheat is required to be above 0°C with an interpass temperature below 150°C.
