Better Mixes in

Logic Pro X
Proven strategies for better,
faster mixes in Logic Pro X

Page 1

By Rob Mayzes
Tool Click Zones
Go to ‘Logic Pro X > Preferences > General’
and tick the boxes under ‘Pointer Tool in Tracks Provides’

Page 1

Now your pointer tool has more functionality.

Move around an audio or MIDI region and notice

how the tool changes.

Depending on where your cursor is located (in

the bottom or top half, or near an edge) you can
complete different functions!
Mix Groups
Click and hold in an empty ‘Group’ box on a mixer channel to
create a new mix group.

Add multiple channels to the same group. For example,

add all of the drums to Group 1.

Page 1
Now you can control the faders, pan pots and more on all
the channels at the same time.

You can set what parameters are controlled by the mix

groups. Head to the ‘Inspector’ and expand the group
window.

You can even edit multiple regions at the same time using
groups by ticking the ‘Editing’ box.
Channel Strip
Configurations
As well as creating project templates in Logic Pro X (File >
Save as Template…) you can create channel templates.

Click and hold on the ‘Setting’ box at the top of the mixer
channel and go to ‘Save Channel Strip Setting as…’

Page 1

Give the template a name and hit ‘Save’.

Now you can recall your plugins and channel settings as a

template at any time by going to that same ‘Setting’ menu
on a different channel and selecting your template.

I use this for vocals, bass, guitars, kicks and more.

Drum Doubling
Logic Pro X has a great feature that allows you to quickly
double up or replace drum parts with samples.

Select the track that you want to add samples to, and go
to ‘Track’ then ‘Replace or Double Drum Track’ (or press
the ‘ctrl’ and ‘D’ keys).

After analysing your audio, select the desired mode

(‘Replacement’ or ‘Doubling’) and adjust the settings until
the new MIDI events are properly triggered by the original
drum hits.

Use the ‘Prelisten’ function and find a sample that works

in the mix.

When you’re done, hit ‘OK’ and mix in the new channel
underneath your drums.
