28 I Headend technology I The UFOcompact plus® signal processing system

Connection cable “Power Supply Redundancy”

UFZ 810
The connection cable enables power supply redundancy for the UFOcompact plus® headend
system. The connection of two base units (UFG 810) creates a half-load parallel operation.
In the event of an error, a power supply unit takes over the current supply for both base units.
The redundant circuit is activated automatically and seamlessly, ensuring permanent and
safe operation.

Features
▪▪ No image loss owing to power supply redundancy
▪▪ Half-load parallel operation with immediate switch-over in the event of an error
(seamless)
▪▪ Hot-plug capable, power supply units can be exchanged without interrupting
operation
▪▪ High availability
▪▪ Increase of the power supply life by reduction of power

Software option “SNMP Monitoring”

UFW 800
The UFW 800 software extension was developed for the UFOcompact plus® headend system
and is a chargeable software option. This extension provides an SNMP interface through
which all important status parameters such as module status, fan status, signal qualities etc.
of a headend system can be monitored.

Features
▪▪ Provision of an SNMP interface for monitoring a system, comprising a base unit (master)
and, as the case may be, one or more extension units (slaves)
▪▪ The SNMP agent runs exclusively on the base unit
▪▪ The SNMP agent is configured through SNMP. This includes the configuration of the
access control, the SNMPv3 user and the notifications
▪▪ Support of all UFOcompact plus® modules, except UVO 830

HDMI-Encoder UFX 100 Main features

▪▪Multifunctional HDMI
encoder
The encoder is the perfect complement for a headend to feed an additional signal from
a DVD player or a set-top box. Using different interfaces to the input (HDMI/YPbPr/S-Video/ ▪▪Full-HD compatible
AV), you can insert also camera signals without problems in the DVB-C/T net. It is easily ▪▪Web management
possible to even play and record your own streams (videos).

Features
▪▪ HDMI Encoder MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 HD/SD
▪▪ Inputs: HDMI/YPbPr/S-Video/AV
· Implementation of different signal sources, e.g. set-top boxes, cameras,
DVD players and Blu-ray players
▪▪ HF output: DVB-C/T/ISDB-T
▪▪ Recording and playback of transport streams (TS playout) via USB stick/hard disk
· Allows to play out own content, e.g. videos, restaurant menus, hotel offers,
advertising trailers and information films
·Generation of TS content with the software “TS Creator”, available for free at
www.kathrein.com
▪▪ Setting options: web management (Ethernet) and direct device operation
▪▪ Device has an LCN function

The UFOmini headend family facilitates the combined reception of DVB-S, S2,
T, T2 and -C signals by means of eight multi-standard frontends. The standalone
headend in a compact design also offers a six-way decoding option (CI) and eight
flexibly adjustable output channels in DVB-C or DVB-T. What's more, UFOmini is
characterised by a very high level of energy efficiency and a remote configuration
option. Additional baseband signal processing with a channel filter, NIT, support
for various LCN standards and the flexible decoding option all add up to a product
with a very wide field of application. The UFOmini components, which can all be
combined with one another, are as follows:
▪▪ UFO 83 – eight output channels in DVB-T
▪▪ UFO 87 – eight output channels in DVB-C
▪▪ UFO 83/CI – eight output channels in DVB-T with six CI slots
▪▪ UFO 87/CI – eight output channels in DVB-C with six CI slots

Connection example and overview of functions 38

The third system is the inexpensive, yet fully technically developed, UFOnano
standalone headend, which offers a number of advantages specifically when
modernising existing properties. Really simple programming thanks to channel
packages and a pre-set programme list mean that installation and commissioning
are completed in the blink of an eye. UFOnano facilitates a transmodulation (FTA)
from eight x DVB-S/-S2 to eight x QAM. With a typical power consumption of 20
watts, the headend with a built-in power supply unit is extremely energy-efficient.
The fact that it is pre-programmed when delivered means it can be used without
any further configuration work. Once it is mounted and connected, the major
German-language TV channels and radio stations will be available immediately
via Astra 19.2° East. This headend is primarily used in small hotels and guest
houses.
